1'+ Flat. A few sets but so inconsistent had no idea where they were going to line up. Apparently missed it on Thursday which was the peak of a much over hyped south west that was in my book real small and inconsistent. Pretty dismal. |
| Blacks | 08/22/00 5:00 pm - 7:00 pm |
1 - 3'+ A new southwest was supposed to fill in this evening. Some sign of it about evry 15 minutes or so. Waves on the whole were pretty much junky close outs with some small north west wind swell predominating. The sets when they came in were pretty large but were having a hard time connecting over the sandbars properly making for some fast and hollow thumpers. As the tide started moving out conditions got even worse with the waves completely dropping off. A complete glass off but it didn't matter. |
| Diamond St. | 08/20/00 1:00 pm - 3:00 pm |
1 - 3' Same size as yesterday but crappy windswell bumps that were pretty much closed out. You'd find a corner here and there but for the most part it was a bust. |
| Diamond St. | 08/19/00 10:00 am - 12:00 pm |
1 - 3' South pretty much over but still trace and mixing with a little north west wind swell making for real peaky conditions. Real fun lefts going into the swim zone, which the lifeguards love, and a few fast rights. Real fun for what I thought was beginning to look like a bust. |
| Newbreak | 08/18/00 6:00 am - 7:30 am |
2 - 4' Swell still hanging in and maybe a bit bigger. Swell big enough to swing into Nubes pretty good. Real fun and fast waves for little time for smacking on the low tide. Once the tide started filling in the waves fattened up a bit and where pretty carvable. Some pretty good tube sections popping up over the inside reef too. Been missing the bowl the whole morning and finally slipped into a nice u-shaped section that was just begging for a hand drag. Good times. |
| Blacks | 08/17/00 5:00 pm - 7:30 pm |
4 - 6'+ Brand new swell and it was coming on. Unfortunately a south wind was trashing it bad. Paddled out at south peak and wasn't seeing too many corners with the tide low and the wind knocking things down. Couldn't put it together at all at first with the junk on top of the swell. Just the smaller insiders somewhat not closing out. About half hour into to the session the tide really started pushing and the swell just started pouring in closing out south peak completely. Drifted down to north peak and the wind started calming down. Massive left peaks pushing through with tons of power. Just started catching big smakcable left after left for about hour and half. Highlight was catching a fat left behind the peak and got a backside stand up tube. Pretty damn good. |

1 - 4' South swell still hanging on. Good low tide this morning. Should have got up early to crack it in the water but that's hard to do. Anyhow, looks like I missed the best part of the morning on the peak low. Got some fun waves but the swell really wasn't filling in well at all through Nubes on a slightly higher tide demonstrating perhaps that this swell really isn't as powerful as advertised. Caught a few sets that were real fast but there just were not enough of these for a solid session, even though there were only two other guys out. Still had fun surfing just front side for the first time since Bird. Clocking a few lips on the forehand is always fun. |
| Blacks | 08/15/00 6:30 am - 8:00 am |
3 - 5'+ South swell pretty much the only thing in the water this morning making for clean conditions. Low tide creating stellar peaks up and down Blacks with south peak's lefts just roping. Really good fast waves, some too fast and shutting down. Some nice big face to work with and also some barrel sections to play with if you were up for it. Low tide was key today in creating these peaks because once the tide started moving in fast, it really started closing out more. Still it was a very good session - borderline epic. |
| Chalcedony St. | 08/12/00 8:00 am - 9:30 am |
1 - 3'+ Much cleaner today but the air has become unstable creating thick pea soup fog. Luckily just a light ruffle from he fog burning off. Wasn't really minding the smaller conditions because it was so clean and peaky. This part of PB can get like this on the right amount of northwest wind swell and southwest groundswell. Fun little lefts and rights. A little more power would have helped but it was fun. |
| Blacks | 08/11/00 7:30 am - 9:30 am |
3 - 5'+ Another hot humid day around town making for these ideal all day glass fests because of real stable slow moving air masses. A lot more wind swell and south swell today, with the wind swell dominating, making for some pretty meaty conditions but not the best form. Pretty lumpy and shifty out there today. Some real fast lefts with some pretty sucky bowl sections in places. Got a couple were you would race the bowl and then snap under the lip or try to pull in. Didn't see too many guys pulling in because of the shifty conditions but I did see one guy pull in for a couple seconds on a sick head high pit. |
| Blacks | 08/11/00 5:30 pm - 7:00 pm |
2 - 4'+ Hot, hot weather again today making for extremely glassy conditions. Water has dropped quite bit from all this wind swell upwelling. Medium sized wind swell with a underlying inconsistent southwest swell. Lumpy high tide conditions but some workable lefts and a few select rights. Better when I first got out with more lined up face. Tide filling in made for more corners than lines. Fun but not epic. |
| La Jolla Shores | 08/10/00 6:00 am - 8:00 am |
1 - 3'+ Windswell and not clean at that. Scripps had more size but was extremely lumpy and slow looking. Opted for Shores because I saw some very clean rights coming through off the bathrooms. Get out there and it isn't too crowded and there are a few fun lefts coming through, although they are real bowly on the take off, they quickly diminish with zero power. A few little rights but the tide fills in and the crowd thickens and it gets pretty crappy. Oh well can't win then all, eh? |
| Blacks | 08/02/00 5:30 pm - 7:00 pm |
1 -2'+ What a difference a day makes. It was pretty crappy today. Hoping for a repeat of yesterday with maybe smaller surf. Got smaller surf but the form was closed out and junky. There were a few lined up rights and a couple of dump section lefts, but the overall the waves were closing fast. |
| Blacks | 08/01/00 5:30 pm - 7:00 pm |
2 -4'+ Good when we first got out with super hot and glassy conditions and some real nice lefts and rights coming through. Buoys were reading 175 degrees so this swell had to wrap big time into San Diego. I'm sure up north and Mexico were probably big. Caught some real wedgy waves that were lining up long with plenty of wackable face. Good for about an hour until the tide pushed in fast and started mushing and closing things out. |
