Location Date/Time Conditions
South Mission Jetty 08/30/03
7:00 am - 9:00 am
1 - 2' some + Boy oh boy was it small today. Nearly flat with just a trace of north west wind swell running. Headed down to South Mish to see maybe if the jetty had anything surfable. A few little left wedges popping up for some good little hitties. A few really lining up while other just drop and one hit before fading. Actually not too bad considering the size.
Reed St. 08/28/03
7:00 am - 9:00 am
1 - 3' Bit more swell in the water today. Still really jumbled but once the tide started filling in over the inside the rights satrted coming together for a few hitties. OK.
Reed St. 08/27/03
6:00 am - 8:00 am
1' maybe 2' Small wind scraps that actually had a bit of face to work with but that's pushing it to say the least. Verging on terrible.
Black's 08/21/03
6:00 am - 8:00 am
1 - 3' Small south pulses every five minutes or so. some super racy waves but mostly small closeouts. Caught a really sick little left pit that I pigged dogged twice. Kinda fun.
Alisitos (K-58) 08/20/03
10:00 am - 12:00 pm
1 - 3' Wind swell dried up but a new little south pulse throwing up some little walls to hit. Water had warmed up from the day before so a pretty pleasant session. Fun.
Alisitos (K-58) 08/19/03
12:00 pm - 1:00 pm and 2:00 pm - 4:00pm
2 - 3' some 4' South had pretty much faded to just inconsistent blips. Wind swell running so we headed on up to Alisitos. Sheet glassy and hot when we arrived. A fun mix of wind swell and remnants of south swell making for some fun peaks that had some face and a few tube sections to work with. Fun.
Cuatro Casas 08/18/03
10:00 pm - 1:00 pm and 2:00 pm - 3:30pm
2 - 3' some 4' + A bit smaller today and inconsistent. Just a small southwest running. Still some pretty fun and rippable waves especially on peak high when it was really feeling the point. Fun.
Cuatro Casas 08/17/03
12:00 pm - 2:00 pm and 3:00 pm - 4:30pm
2 - 4' some 5' + New southern hemi on top of an already fading one. Clean and lined up on the high tide. Even with an onshore this place holds form. Breaking on the outside and straight into the point. Lots of lips and roundies. A bit crowded but it was the end of the weekend. Fun.
Swami's 08/16/03
7:00 am - 9:00 am
1 - 2' some + New southern hemi starting to show with a tad of wind swell still running. Swamis not showing a heck of lot but I didn't feel like driving around. Caught a few fun rippers off the corner but that's about it. Barely OK.
Reed St. 08/15/03
7:00 am - 9:00 am
2 - 3' some + More wind swell with a little bit of southern hemi in the mix. Tide pretty low. Looked at the Cliffs and OB Jetty but both showing zero signs of life. Drove into PB just for the hell of it and was pleasantly surprised to see peaks up and down the beach. Some pretty sick little tubes to be had while the tide was low. tide moved in and seemed to close out a bit more but there were still some fun pick and choose corners. Fun.
La Jolla Shores 08/14/03
7:00 am - 9:00 am
1 - 3' Crap wind swell with zero form. After driving up to Swami's praying there would be some surf and being shot down, I ended up back in La Jolla looking at a packed out and dumpy Scripps. At least I could park at Shores and it seemed somewhat clean. However it ended up being not very good with some really weak and closed out waves. Too bad the conditions were primo with no wind and sunshine. A couple whacks here and there but overall very poor.
Swami's 08/13/03
7:00 am - 9:00 am
1 - 3' Little bit of tropical swell, remnants of southern hemi and some wind swell in the mix. Some fun little peaks on the inside as the tide was pushing good for some fat roundies. Tide filled in too much quickly and shut it down. OK.
Blacks 08/11/03
7:00 am - 9:00 am
2 - 3' some 4+ Lots of junk wind swell mixing with a really inconsistent southern hemi. Hard to find some open face. some left corners and the odd right but just pretty dumpy overall. OK.
Cassidy St. O-side 08/10/03
7:00 am - 9:00 am
1 - 3' Small pulse of southern hemi mixed with some wind swell. Short perky peaks. Some good little faces to crack and the odd little dipper. fun.
Scripp's 08/09/03
6:00 am - 8:00 am
1 - 2' Leftovers that looked still pretty surfable at Scripps until I got out there. Terrible. Barely pushing and became so fricking crowded it was beyond a joke. What can you do?
La Jolla Shores 08/08/03
6:30 am - 8:30 am
1 - 3' Wind swell still hanging in there but on the way down. Pretty decent on the push with some nice peaks breaking in front of the bathroom. Tide turned and pretty much killed it. Fun while it lasted but the crowd...silly.
La Jolla Shores 08/07/03
9:00 am - 11:00 am
2 - 3' Wind swell a bit more filled in. Shores and Scripps literally the only places breaking in SD because of the extreme northerly angle. Consistent and small waves that were well shaped and rippable up and down the beach. Mostly favoring the lefts but a few whackable rights in the mix also. An added bonus that the water was toasty warm. Crowded but enough to go around. Fun.
Scripp's 08/06/03
6:30 am - 8:30 am
1 - 2' Small peaky wind swell. Pretty dribbly when I first got out and was considering this session a complete waste of time when the tide turned and dropped and some little crackable peaks appeared near the pier. Even stuffed into a little dipper. Some frigidly cold spots in the water making me shake in my springer. OK.
Swami's 08/03/03
8:00 am - 9:00 am
1 - 2' Swell had swung much more south overnight just leaving the biggest waves to sneak through those spots less fortunate not to be completely south facing. Really small but some carvable sections on the inside ledge. Pretty small and weak overall. Poor.
Secos 08/03/03
7:30 am - 9:30 am
2 - 4' some + Low had just turned around and started filling in over the point. Sectiony form the extreme southerly direction but the swell was definitely bigger compared to the last couple of days. Some good racetracks off the rocks offering the best waves that were opening up for some solid carves. Water was in the high 50's. good thing I had my full. Fun.
Stables 08/02/03
6:00 am - 9:30 am
2 - 3' some + After the crowds of Malibu we head on up to Fairgrounds. Pretty sloppy from the strong onshores the afternoon before but at least it isn't too crowded because the Fair is going on and there is zero parking. A few dribbly corners here and there and some south pulse sneaking through every once in awhile that had a bit more on offer through Stables. Light offshore turning to glass making for lovely conditions to bad there wasn't the surf to go with it. OK.
Malibu 08/01/03
6:00 am - 9:30 am
2 - 3' some + Southern hemi not all it's cracked up to be. Arrived at Malibu about a quarter to 6:00 and already droves of people out. Apparently a club contest the next day so everybody out for a warm up. Some good waves winding through 1st and some bigger but sectiony waves coming through 3rd. Paddle out to 1st and catch a few sets that swing wide and eventually am dropped in on. Silliness so I head to 3rd where I manage to sneak a few corners that are super zippy. Then the lulls start happening. I'm talking 10 to 20 minute lulls. The kind of lulls that make people get very angry and hostile lulls when there is 50 or so of your closest friends out all trying to get those two set waves. Anyhow, managed to catch a few more good ones but really not enough swell to go around. Beautiful day however. OK.
