Location Date/Time Conditions
Bird Rock 08/30/04
7:00 am - 9:30 am
2 - 4'+ Left over south swell showing really inconsistently through Bird. Not a soul out so paddled out on the fast incoming tide. Caught a few nice sets by myself and then another guy joined me. A bit soft but carvable, especially on the lefts. A few more heads came out and it quickly started shutting down with the high tide. OK.
Swami's 08/29/04
6:30 am - 9:00 am
1 - 3'+ Left over west swell being joined by a new small southern hemi. Some fun, although soft peaks on the inside. Crowd manageable at first and then becoming unbearable. Stuck it out until the tide scared people in and caught a few more rare sets off the corner that were lining up all the way through. Good to be back at Swami's but the surf was just passable.
Newbreak 08/28/04
12:30 pm - 3:30 pm
1 - 4'+ West swell had filled in further. Could tell the intitial swell was extremely north by the way some sets were swinging and unloading at Inbetweens. Waited for the low tide in the afternoon today. Some pretty fun surf and just a gorgeous day with just a trace of wind and the sun shining. Crowd not to bad either. Some waist to chest high walls good for some turns and the very rare tube. Crowd got thick so headed over to Inbetweens which was hooking some head high sets all the way through almost into Nubes. Tide peaked low and crowd thinned out a bit so headed back to Nubes and caught a couple more. Fun stuff besides burning my feet on the smoking hot ground on the walk back to the car.
Scripp's 08/27/04
7:30 am - 9:30 am
1 - 4' New west sell perked up over night. Brutal south winds had a lot of places blown out so headed over to La Jolla to get some shelter. Fast peaks up and down the beach and consistent. Seemed to be favoring the lefts but some pretty workable rights also. Crowd seemed a bit heavy but actually pretty spread out and I was pretty much getting the waves I wanted. Tide started peaking high and mushing it out. Fun.

6:30 am - 8:30 am
1 - 3'+ Same swell but period down. Still inconsistent but a tad weaker than yesterday. A few good sets but crowded and weak overall. Managed to get a few good sets that were rippable. Fuck it's summer.
Newbreak 08/25/04
7:00 am - 10:30 am
1 - 3'+ Medium tide and gorgeous conditions. North west swell wrapping into San Diego making it a straight west. Cliffs showing well on the tide push, but remember this is medium tide and a pretty weak swell. Inconsistent but semi rippable surf at Nubes. Just a few heads out and if there was any more it would have been unbearable. Had to wait and wait and wait for the good ones but some worth waiting for. I want to say it was good but just really OK, especially after being out for three and half hours.

7:00 am - 9:00 am
1 - 3' Medium tide and no wind. Small pulse of southern hemi keeping things surfable. Inconsistent but some bigger sets to be had if you jockeyed in the crowd correctly. A few racetracks off the bounce and a few smackables off the corner. Better than nothing but nothing epic.
OB Jetty 08/20/04
6:00 am - 9:00 am
1 - 3' Another low tide morning. Light wind but just a trace of the southern hemi left over. Not too many people out so that was a plus after dealing with 20+ guys a go out. Sat and waited patiently for the bounce and was rewarded with some two foot race tracks and a few that opened up for some big carves. OK.

6:00 am - 9:00 am
2 - 4'+ Low tide and dredging. Unfortunately these barrels were about 80% makeable. But man when you connected with the right one it was shack time. Crowd salivating for the inconsistent sets and of course not all of them good waves. Somehow managed to pick off a few beauts. One was a full on back door pit. Another was a full on stand up tube off the corner and lastly a corner swing that went all the way in with a cracking wall. Based on the three waves a give the session a fair rating.

12:30 pm - 2:30 pm
2 - 4' Waited for the swell to fill in but it never really did in the city. Much, much to south with it running about 170° - 180 °. The jetty refracting it but super, super inconsistent and just a huge wolf pack on it with a goon pack thrown in to just make you want to hurl. South wind not a big problem but high tide turning to the low was making it a bit mushy and crumbly. A few gems to be had amid all the close outs but it seemed like there was always someone on the inside of you for the one you wanted. Did manage to pull down a few good ones but the bounce wasn't quite working but the good ones I had were off the bounce. OK.
Missouri St. 08/10/04
7:00 am - 8:30 am
1 - 2' Small wind swell keeping things ridable. Some little crackable rights pushing through every now and then. Water a tad on the cool side. Better than nothing.
OB Jetty 08/06/04
7:00 am - 8:30 am
1 - 2' Same swell but a bit smaller but was a tad more rippable than yesterday. Must of been the tide going out. Anyhow, long waits between sets and ridiculous amount of people making for a pretty lame time. OK to terrible.
OB Jetty 08/06/04
9:00 am - 12:00 pm
1 - 3' A very inconsistent south east swell keeping things barely surfable. Super clean however, so any little bump coming through was hitting the sand bar and rifling down the line. A few freak sets when the tide first turned around. As the tide came up it got really soft. OK.
