Parking Lot 08/31/99
4:30 pm - 6:30 pm
2 - 4' South swell had kind of faded but was replaced by a pretty strong north west wind swell. Parking Lot looking good but a little soft but definitely better than the closeouts at the beach breaks. Still a little soft when I first paddle out but the tide was dropping making for some nice lined up waves on the sets. Still lacking real punch but still pretty hitable. Not a bad session.
OB Jetty 08/30/99
5:30 pm - 7:30 pm
2 - 4' After getting hammered in the morning by the hollow closeouts out front, I was looking for some real surf today. South swell has really come on overnight. Pretty clean with just a trace of north in it. Thought I'd check out the cliffs on the evening low tide. Total bust. Real inconsistent and soft - swell was too south. Decide to check out the Jetty and was well rewarded with some sick lines pushing through. Not all time jetty but pretty damn good with waves lining up well from right off the Jetty for a more wedgy but shorter wave and then from the corner which was more lined up and longer. Surfed the corner with about 20 of my closest friends. Although it was super crowded I managed to sneak a few real good ones that lined up all the way through. Real fun surf but the snake pit attitude of a lot of these bozos was real trying. Guys dropping in on each other everywhere. One longboarder dropped in on me way down the line but luckily he was so lame and far in front I could still surf the wave. Summer time - you got to love it.
Diamond St. 08/29/99
11:30 am - 2:30 pm
1-3' + Super fun combo swell pushing through today with the wind swell seeming to dominate the beginning of a little southern hemi. Peaks splitting both left and right on high tide. Lefts seemed to be a little bit more prominent but there was A few real good lined up rights which were real smackable. Water has finally warmed up a bit and is somewhat skinable. Surfed for a long time taking advantage of the juice.
Missouri St. 08/28/99
7:30 am - 9:30 am
1-2' Small but clean and a few sets out of the northwest to be had. Better than the flatness we experienced all week.
Missouri St. 08/20/99
4:30 pm - 6:00 pm
1-3' A small pulsing south swell pushing through with super clean conditions. Water still but ass cold. Total flatness would be periodically broken up by these really strong, clean little lines that were throwing nicely over the high tide bars. Conditions remained optimum for about an hour until the tide got to high and started shutting it down.
Diamond St. 08/15/99
8:00 am - 10:00 am
1-3' + West wind swell was peaking quick and there seemed to be a few nice sections pulling through amid the close outs but the faces were real funky and soft after throwing real hard off the peak. The good ones were were few and far and mostly nice left wedges. Super crowded and slightly dangerous out there with zero elbow room.
Missouri St. 08/14/99
7:00 am - 9:00 am
1-3' More consistent and peaky today with a little south sell mixed in with some west wind swell. Some punchy little lefts but nothing to write home about. Surfed the pier later in the day and caught a few nice lined up waves right off the pier but the crowd and inconsistency quickly made me go in.
Diamond St. 08/13/99
4:00 pm - 6:00 pm
1-3' Finally something to surf. Low tide helping things out making for the small lefts to be a little more sucky than they would be. A few fun ones but mostly closing out. Better than nothing.
Del Mar 20th St. 08/01/99
8:00 am - 10:00 am
1-3' After Morgan calling super fun the day before, we head on up to Del Mar Shores to check out the beach break. Swell for the last two days has been a small locally generated windswell. Out front wasn't doing much with it, so up to Del Mar, which takes this stuff straight on. Fun little sectiony peaks with crytal clear water but a bit of a crowd. A couple barrels to be had as well as a few cutties, but nothing spectactular. I dropped into a nice shoulder high wave that shoed over me for a nice 2 second barrel, which has been the highlight of a pretty weak July.
