Location Date/Time Conditions
Swami's 12/22/03
9:00 am - 11:00 am
2 - 4' some + Mixed bag of swell with some long period west and some short interval west. Surprisingly good considering the call for small surf today (something tells me there's something fishy afoot at Surfline). Tide super high but pulling out quickly. Some good ones off the peak with just a few of us partaking. Caught a couple really good ones that went all the way through. As the tide pulled out the inside got better but the crowd got thick. Pretty fun.
PB Point 12/21/03
7:00 am - 9:00 am
2 - 3' some + West swell out the door with short interval slop left over. The point looked the best on the 7 foot tide. Kinda of sloppy and sectiony but carvable at first. As the tide pulled out it pretty much turned to crap and the crowd became a little thick. OK.
Swami's 12/20/03
7:00 am - 10:00 am
3 - 6' some + West swell fully filled in. Inconsistent but just spot on for Swami's. The high tide loving it with super fast lines pushing all the way through and some corners working there magic at about head high. Waves started getting quite a bit smaller as the tide drew out but getting more carvable. Switched up boards form the 6'6" to the 6'2" and powered on. Fun but silly crowd.
Newbreak 12/19/03
8:00 am - 11:00 am
2 - 4' some + North swell from yesterday just a memory. Cliffs were purportedly solid double overhead. Pretty much the only place in So Cal pulling in that type of energy. Anyhow, new west swell filling in nicely. Not a soul around on the high tide so Morgan and myself head down to Nubes. Looks promising on the sets and just super clean chest high waves pushing through with just a puff of offshore wind. Extremely carvable. As the tide dropped one other guy joined us and the waves started to get more hollow. Some good dippers and Morgan got the tube of the day on a head high backdoor. Beautiful.
Swami's 12/18/03
7:00 am - 10:00 am
3 - 5' some + North west fully filled in but a bit too steep for North County. Still some seriously fun clean waves pushing through. Surfed mid peak and the corner. Lots of waves connecting from the outside however that makes for a scrappy pack because only one take off zone most of the time. Still got my fill of roundies and hitties after three solid hours. Good.
Swami's 12/17/03
11:00 am - 1:30 pm
2 - 3' some +New north west starting to show. Pretty steep angle of over 300+ so pretty6 inconsistent. Decided to wait for a lunch surf hoping the swell would come up a bit more. Not really happening all that much but beautiful hot and sunny conditions. A few weak ones off the corner at first and then some good ones off the peak but inconsistent and crowded. Swell started filling in a bit more as the tide slowly started to slip in and the inside came alive. Traded a good series of rippable corner waves with two guys for a solid 45 minutes. Fun.
Swami's 12/16/03
6:00 am - 7:00 am
2 - 3' some + Swell way down overnight. A good stiff offshore blowing creating some razor sharp lines. A few waves off the corner that had some face to work with. Oh to have some solid surf in these conditions would be nice. OK.
Swami's 12/15/03
6:30 am - 10:00 am
2 - 5' some + New north west swell. Not really fully grounded but more organized than wind swell. Very enjoyable light crowd. Caught some good head high waves off the peak and than slid into the inside with one other guy catching the swingers. Getting better as the tide started to push but by then everyone had figured out there were waves and the crowd got unbearable. Very fun while it lasted.
Swami's 12/14/03
6:30 am - 9:30 am
3 - 5' some + North west swell fully filled in. Some pretty sizable waves pushing through with some real power drawing off the reef. Caught some really good waves off the corner. Just rippable. A few bowls to be had as well on the inside. Wind trying to blow side shore but eventually slackening to a mere puff. Silly crowd. Butt ass cold this morning. The first time all winter that my feet were getting numb. Good.
Swami's 12/13/03
6:30 am - 9:30 am
2 - 4' some + New north west swell in the water. Pretty steep angle but Swami's pulling it in inconsistently. Some good waves off the peak if you could get one but settled for surfing the corner which had a lighter crowd. Some good carvable waves with beautiful conditions. Fun.
Swami's 12/12/03
6:00 am - 9:30 am
3 - 5' some + Left over wind swell from the hellish onshores from the storm that passed through. Howling offshores with some big drops so opeted for a bigger board. A bit mushy but if you connected with a good one off the peak you were in for a nice long one. Fun but nothing great.
Newbreak 12/10/03
10:00 am - 12:30 pm
2 - 4' some + Some west ground swell and a west south west ground swell running with both being pretty inconsistent. Ultra clean conditions with just barely a puff of wind. Went out about an hour after peak high. Nubes surprisingly solid on the sets. Just myself, Morgan and two other guys out the whole time trading some pretty rippable waves. Nothing real hollow, but plenty of face to carve up. Super fun.
Swami's 12/09/03
6:30 am - 9:30 am
2 - 3' some + New inconsistent ground swell in the water. Beautiful conditions with the high tide creating lined up waves that were soft but carvable. Light crowd but the long boarding goons trying to put a damper on everybody's session. Caught some fun ones off the corner that were crackable. OK.
Swami's 12/08/03
9:30 am - 11:30 am
2 - 3' some + Ground swell just a memory as wind swell filled in overnight. Uncrowded and surfable so I'm not going to complain too much. Corner dishing up some whackable reforms. Tide really started draining and kind of shut it down. Fun while it lasted.
Swami's 12/07/03
6:30 am - 11:00 am
2 - 4' some 6+ Swell just never really materialized like predicted. Long period and clean but not very big or powerful. Still not bad. Corner cranking some good waves as was mid peak. Super crowded and was quite a chore scoring waves at first. Was surfing the 6'6" again because the 6'2' was out of action and drying out. Caught some of my best waves off mid peak that were opening up for some big vertical moves. Ended up sitting on the corner most of the time trading with a few heads but the long boards and utter cluelessness of most jokers just maddening. Still I had a good time and caught a lot of waves, which I should have, after surfing for 4 and half hours.
Swami's 12/06/03
8:00 am - 10:30 am
1 - 4' some + West north west swell on the way. Everybody knew it and was waiting for it. The joys of a connected society. Anyhow, high tide slowing it down but the sets were looking carvable -the only problem was not a hell of a lot of them. Not too many takers either. Most people figuring they'd catch it when the swell filled in some more. Some super clean waves off the corner. Riding my 6'6" which was too much board but workable surfing it off the tail. Stayed out pretty long to get the wave count up. Fun but nothing great or living up to the hype.
Black's 12/05/03
9:30 am - 11:30 am
2 - 4' some + South pulse running with a tad of wind swell. Headed down to Black's with Morgan for a tide drain hoping it was going to be good and not too crowded. Some nice wedgy peaks throwing up some lefts and rights, mostly favoring the lefts. Some really hollow waves on the sets. Some of the waves kind of strange with really steep bowly drops to mush, while other full on freight trains. Caught some pretty whackalbe lefts and the odd right. Was trying to get stuffed into some tubes but couldn't quite pull it off. Took off late on a wedgy left set wave and got stuck at the top and went over the falls. I came out unscatehd but my board had a huge crack in the rail from what I assume was hitting the bottom. Kept on surfing anyhow letting the board suck up some water. Fun session.
OB Jetty 12/04/03
6:30 am - 8:30 am
1 - 2' Super socked in with pea soup fog. Couldn't see a thing but the buoys were showing a slight south pulse. Paddle out and it was pretty bad. Lots of small and super junky wind swell mucking it up. A few waves out of the south were salvaging the session with a few open faces to hit. Poor.
Newbreak 12/03/03
9:00 am - 11:00 am
1 - 2' some+ Some short period west wind swell and a tad of southern hemi. Not a heck of a lot happening at the Cliffs but Nubes had a few thwackable walls on the medium tide with no one out and the sun peaking through. Surfed by myself for about two hours. The minute some heads showed I was out of there. OK.
Swami's 12/02/03
6:00 am - 7:30 am
1 - 3' Swell pretty faded and coupled with a high tide looking pretty mediocre. Sat on the corner pretty much by myself for the odd swing set that was pushing through some slow but carvable waves. OK.
Swami's 12/01/03
6:00 am - 9:30 am
2 - 5'+ A bit bigger and a tad more consistent. Some good waves pushing through. Sat mostly on the corner at first trading waves with a few heads. Some swinging wide. Tide started moving out and the inside of the peak was starting to look pretty good lining up all the way through. Caught some pretty nice waves here that were just begging to be hit. Conditions excellent again with a sheet glass water surface. What fall is all about in So Cal. Good.
