Location Date/Time Conditions
Abb's 02/29/04
6:00 am - 8:00 am
3 - 4' some + Some left over wind swell and a new steep north swell just starting to show. Tide slowly pulling out and howling offshore. Was going to surf Nubes but already had a healthy pack on it. Two guys out at Abb's with some fun crackable lefts. A little soft in spots but opening up on the sets for some big swooping turns. Crowd never got over three guys. Pretty good session.
Swami's 02/28/04
10:00 am - 12:00 pm
2 - 3' some + Took a day off after snapping the board and apparently tagging my leg sometime during Thursday's session, so was a little apprehensive with the leg still sore. Luckily crowd had thinned out as the tide was slowly creeping back in from a pretty good low. Pretty much just left over wind slop but the corner was dishing up some little tubes and a few walls albeit a bit soft but bashable. Leg loosened up and wasn't a factor at all. Wind tried coming up but never really materialized while I was out. Caught some fun waves.
Swami's 02/26/04
11:00 am - 1:00 pm
6 - 12' some 15'+ Rained really heavily last night and severe south winds trashed conditions. Around 8:00 am the wind laid down and conditions looked to be improving. Arrived at Swami's around 10:45 am and it was just coming on with 8' sets. Swell predicted to be huge. The buoys had jumped from 5:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. big time. Harvest buoy macking at about 22'. Paddle out on the 6'10" knowing it's going to get bigger. Sets swinging wide and chunky from a lot of residual wind swell. Catch a couple good ones off the outside corner right off the bat that are really good and carvable. Feeling confident so head out to the peak. Just a few guys out as know one has clued in to the swell yet. Catch a nice solid one and paddle back out. The swell really starts filling in and I get caught inside. Have to bail my board but it seems fine. Catch a few more off the corner and get drilled by a wide swinging set paddling back out. End up paddling outside and catch a double overhead bomb. It doesn't connect through the inside so I kick out to meet my destruction as a two huge bowling set waves pummel me and as I come up after the second one I notice my board is snapped in two about three quarters of the way up. Belly on in. End of an epic session. Luckily got in two good hours before the snappage. Not the highest quality but the biggest I've seen in years.
Swami's 02/25/04
6:30 am - 9:00 am
2 - 3'+ Swell finally organized itself over night but really lost some punch. Still a few good hollow waves off the main peak and a few rippers midway. Some really mushy while others really lining up too fast. Tide finally started moving in and the corner started coming alive with just a few guys on it. Caught quite a few fun rippable waves but the swell was fading fast and becoming really inconsistent. OK.
Swami's 02/24/04
6:00 am - 7:00 am
3 - 4'+ Very short period wind swell, west ground swell and a tad of southern hemi creating some really jumbled up conditions. Low tide at dawn and the corner throwing up some unpredictable bowls and peaks. Pretty sectiony on some good for some close out whacks. Got a real nice solid pit really wide off the corner. Had to boogie to Berdu so had a short session. OK.
La Jolla Shores 02/22/04
7:00 am - 9:00 am
1 - 4' Howling offshores from south frontal winds making the Shores-Scripps area probably the only surfable area around for a hundred miles. Early on with the lower tide Shores was actually pretty good. Lined up lefts and the occasional lined up right holding up in the offshores. This lasted for about 20 minutes when the tide started really pushing and the swell quality continued to deteriorate from these vicious winds in the outside waters. Caught a couple really fun lefts when I first got out but the remainder of the session was spent searching for something that would either not close out or not mush out. Somehow, miracle of miracle, I got a couple of lined up rights towards the end. Poor.
Swami's 02/20/04
6:00 am - 8:00 am
2 - 4'+ Almost a carbon copy of Wednesday's surf but a bit more ground swell in the water giving it a bit more punch. Pretty damn rippable double ups. Caught some real screamers just inside of the main peak all the way through. A weird low pressure cell popped up around 7:30 and blew it to bits and I struggled to get a good one in. Still super fun while it lasted.
Swami's 02/18/04
6:00 am - 8:00 am
2 - 4'+ Some short period wind swell mixing with a bit of ground swell. Tides have shifted to big fat ones in the morning but this seemed to be helping out the surf. Some fat carvable waves from mid peak. Lots of roundies. Crowd bugged out when it looked like the tide was going to shut it down but it didn't and it actually got better when it turned. Real fun.
Swami's 02/16/04
6:00 am - 8:00 am
2 - 3'+ Dying gasps of yesterday's brilliance. Still some waves to be had but pretty inconsistent. Crowd was light for a change and managed to get a couple goodies off the peak. Fun.
Swami's 02/15/04
6:00 am - 8:30 am
2 - 4'+ Swell boosted up overnight a bit. Super straight and clean. Some excellent waves on the high tide pushing all the way through opening up for some big carves and a few tubes. A bit crowded but was so good. Caught one howler all the way through that was dying to be smacked. Very good.
Swami's 02/14/04
6:30 am - 8:30 am
2 - 3'+ A super clean west swell running. Pretty small but what it lacked in height was made up for in cleanliness. Some really nice waves pushing all the way through from the peak to the inside. A bit too crowded but made sure I got my quota before the tide got too low and sucked the life out of it.
Newbreak 02/11/04
6:30 am - 8:30 am
1 - 2' The pain continues. Howling offshore and just above freezing. A few north lines pushing through Nubes with a few heads out. Head on down and everyone is getting out. Have it to myself but it is small and a bit mushy from the strong offshores. Manage to link up a couple that have some lip. Pretty weak.
Reed St. 02/09/04
6:30 am - 8:30 am
1 - 2' Small and clean. A few one hit rights. Nothing much else and but ass cold. Poor.
Swami's 02/07/04
6:30 am - 7:30 am
1 - 3' Another over hyped swell. Small with it barely pushing 3' on the sets and inconsistent, but it was squeaky clean. A ridiculous amount of people out for the amount of waves coming through. Finagled and then out right just snaked a few that were actually pretty good waves. It totally shut down as the tide flooded and I couldn't take it anymore and paddled in. Waves that actually came through: good. Crowd: bad.
Scripps 02/06/04
7:00 am - 9:00 am
1 - 3' A very small dose of north swell pushing through. Some little rippable rights just north of the staircase and the odd left. The tide peaked and then started pulling out creating a weird bump on it. OK.
Parking Lot 02/05/04
7:00 am - 9:00 am
1 - 3' Left over wind swell and not many places looking good at all. Just happened to stop at the Lot on my way to La Jolla. Never ever have seen so much sand in Tourmaline cove. Even on the 6' high there was beach. Anyhow, some really fun little rights peeling off just north of the Lot. Lippy and hollow in sections. Pretty fun and rippable. surprising seeing this is traditionally a low tide spot. Good times.
Swami's 02/04/04
6:30 am - 8:30apm
2 - 4' Slop. Weak slop at that. A totally tattered wind swell pushing in. Had some size but no form or power. Managed to get some double ups on the inside for a few lips and roundies but most of the time was a hunt for anything resembling a lined up wave. Thankfully got a good one in. So so.
Newbreak 02/02/04
11:00 am - 1:30 pm
2 - 4' New long period north swell and some left over wind swell in the water. Only the Cliffs picking it up. Newbreak looking awfully good on the outgoing tide. Not real big but super rippable and fun. Tons of waves and a light crowd. Lots of lips, hitties, carves and the odd tube to be had. Tide started to get a bit too low but still really fun. Best time I've had in weeks.
Swami's 02/01/04
6:30 am - 9:00 am
2 - 4' Leftover wind swell from the passing storm. Looked good right at dawn with some head high peelers coming through. Caught a couple of good ones right off the bat but after about twenty minutes the conditions significantly changed and for the worse. Tide started dropping out and the swell gave up the ghost. Literally became small sectiony mush. Mediocre at best.
