Newbreak 01/31/05
6:00 am - 7:30 am
2 - 3' some + Wind swell fading fast and barely a sign of the new long period swell yet. Pretty weak and sectiony but a few good ones were pulling together on the sets but a bit crowded for a Monday morning with no surf. Managed to pick off some scraps swing wide that were pretty rippable but not much else. OK.

6:30 am - 10:00 am
3 - 4' some 6'+ Wind swell racheted down quite a bit overnight but still some good energy. Unfortunately very short period and sectiony on the low tide. Caught a few good ones but it really didn't come together until the tide filled in and then it became pretty damn rippable off the peak. Fun.

11:30 am - 1:30 pm
4 - 8' some 10' Pretty large and junky wind swell running from the front that passed through. Some serious juice coming in but very sectiony and junky. A few beautiful gems when it came together on the cleaner ones. Caught maybe four of these in two hours but they were well worth hassle of continuous paddling and clean up sets.

6:00 am - 7:30 am
2 - 5' some 6'+ New north west ground swell in the water. Swell was generated off Japan so very inconsistent but very lined up. Was kind of lacking that oomph however. Best wave of the day was my first off the peak all the way through. Caught some other decent ones but the crowd and wave consistency a problem. Over hyped.

6:00 am - 7:30 am
2 - 4' some + Left over west swell and southern hemi. More rain had a texture on it but was sectiony to the point of very hittable and not shutting you down so plenty of fun waves.

6:00 am - 7:30 am
4 - 5' some 6+ Rain moved in yesterday afternoon but never really seriously blew it out. Sheet glassy this morning and a beautiful locally generated west swell coupled with a southern hemi creating some sick waves early on the lower tide. Easily head high and ripping through all sections with plenty of power underfoot. Could of used the 6'5" but brought the 6'2" thinking it was going to be kind of small. Was pushing that board to the limit for sure. Definitely a sneaker swell that was uncalled with almost no crowd. By 6:30 I had already had more good waves then I had had in weeks. Excellent.

6:00 am - 7:30 am
2 - 3'+ New small west swell in the water with some southern hemi. Tide coming up quick. Some fun waves deep on the point because of the southerly direction. Best waves swinging wide and hitting mid reef. Lots of long boards cluttering the line up this morning and then the tide got too high and shut it down. OK.

6:30 am - 9:00 am
2 - 4' The fifth day of this swell. I cna't remember a north Pacific swell lasting this long. Lots of people expecting it over but it just keeps on coming. Super high tide but breaking deep on the point and lining up through the inside. A bit soft here and there but still plenty rippable. Fun.

7:00 am - 10:00 am
3 - 5' some 7' Swell just keeps on ticking. Actually really good on the high tide push. Was nabbing some tasty peaks on the outside that were lining up all the way through. Very rippable and fun again. Crowd was light maybe due to the misforecast of no waves today? Who knows but it was super fun. Tide turned and was getting pretty bowly through the inside but then it got too low and was sucking the life out of it. By then the mid morning crowd was heading out so I was out of there. Fun stuff again.

6:15 am - 7:45 am
4 - 6' some 8' Swell was misforecast by Surfline again. Was supposed peak yesterday but obviously peaking today. Lots of solid overhead and head high waves. Basically firing. Strange thing was the crowd was pretty small for how good it was. Caught some really good speed lines that were just screaming to be hit. Really good point waves - one of those days I could have easily surfed for 4 or 5 hours.

6:15 am - 7:45 am
3 - 6'+ Swell had filled in much more overnight but the crowd was already out of hand at dawn. Still pretty inconsistent which led to the notching up of the stress level in the water that much more. Managed to get some good ones off the peak while still dark. Moved on into the inside of the peak as it got light and was picking off some good ones that would roll through the outside and jack up through mid reef. Really rippable waves but that crowd.... still had fun though.

6:15 am - 7:45 am
2 - 4' New swell in the water and everybody frothing at the mouth. Inconsistent but some good clean lines coming through. Swell super west so some sections enveloping across mid reef. These were the ones you wanted because guys were taking off too deep. Pretty rippable but the crowd was a bit thick for what was on offer. Fun.
Scripps's 01/18/05
6:30 am - 7:30 am
1 - 3' Left over wind swell and new long period northern hemi lines just starting to show. Some fun little peaks up and down the beach. Nothing spectacular but hittable. OK.
Swami's 01/17/05
7:00 am - 8:30 am
1 - 2' Very small southern hemi running. Looked OK at dawn but faded quickly to small, weak, and soft. Too bad, because conditions were pristine for the fourth day in a row. The very rare surfable set would come through about every fifteen minutes but looked like a good beach break day. Poor.
Scripp's 01/13/05
6:30 am - 7:30 am
1 - 3' + Peaky and clean left over wind swell. Some pretty rippable little waves going both left and right, especially when the tide was lower. Hadn't surfed all week and was jonesing so was amped up and caught a bunch of fun little peelers. Not bad.
Scripp's 01/09/05
7:00 am - 9:30 am
2 - 4' + More rain but conditions have seemed to calmed down a bit. Blowing offshore and swell actually kind of clean but soft. Thought I saw some nice rights at north side so paddled out there at first but the tide was too high. Ended up paddling to south side and hooking up some decent lefts that were good for some roundies and some lips. Tide started moving out and the waves were standing up a bit more. A few rights coming together by the stairs good for a few whacks if you choose correctly. The most surfable waves I've had in a week.

6:30 am - 7:30 am
3 - 6' some 8 Another macking storm bearing down on southern Cal. Winds blew offshore all yesterday so there was some hope this morning it might be clean at Scripps with the south east wind. Big but short interval swell lacking oomph. Sand bars are pretty shot out here so lots of close outs. A few peaks on the peak high tide that were lining up as I first paddled out. Seeing there was probably nowhere else to surf in San Diego, the crowd started to get thick. As the tide moved out the waves backed down a bit but were standing up a bit better. Had to be very choosy to get a good one. OK.
Scripp's 01/06/05
6:30 am - 7:30 am
1 - 2' some + Finally a let up in the rain. Clear and cold with a light offshore wind but of course the surf had dropped into the micro side of things. Small lumpy lines with a few actually ramping up for the odd dump section floater. Poor.
Swami's 01/05/05
6:30 am - 7:30 am
1 - 2' some + Left over wind swell from yet another frontal system. This time the winds were not so much a problem as the incredible bump in the water created by this storm. Lumpy, slow, and weak. Maybe got two decent waves. Terrible.
