| Hermo | 01/29/07 6:00 am - 7:30 am |
2 - 3' some + Left over northwest swell. Super clean and sheet glassy this morning. Some good sets early good for a few turns but as the tide crept further up it became really inconsistent. |
| Swami's | 01/28/07 6:00 am - 8:30 am |
2 - 3' some + Tide pretty high at dawn and swell a bit smaller than the day before. Inconsistent and rippable on the sets but being in the right place at the right time crucial to nabbing the good ones. OK. |
| Swami's | 01/27/07 6:00 am - 8:30 am |
2 - 4' some + Really clean with a residual bump in the swell from yesterday's south winds. Consistent at dawn and rippable. As the tide started drwaing out the peak was getting much better on the sets but the crowd factor was no bueno. Stuck to the inside and was rewarded with a few good ones despite the crowding. |
| Ab's | 01/26/07 6:30 am - 7:30 am |
3 - 5' some + Finally some swell after basically two weeks of weak surf. But, of course, after stellar conditions for what has seemed weeks on end an eddy has kicked up with some marine layer and south winds. Swell filling in nicely and Ab's handling the wind OK. Some fun but mushy lefts which started to stand up as the tide was pulling out more. Expectations were high and dashed on the rocks with the wind, but all in all it was pretty fun with big roundies some decent lips. |
| Scripp's | 01/22/07 6:30 am - 7:30 am |
2 - 3' some + Another cold one again this morning. Killer conditions but swell inconsistent. Northside empty with a few sets peeling toward the pier although a bit mushy. Had it all to myself so it wasn't too bad. |
| OB Jetty/Avalanche | 01/21/07 7:30 am - 9:30 am |
1 - 3' some + Some slightly bigger but wobbly swell pushing out of the north. High tide reefs looking weak so headed into OB to pick up more of the north direction. Jetty inconsistent but a few sets wedging through. Tide shut it down quickly but Avalanche looking to have some size so paddled over. Some decent lefts off the small jetty with a quirky steep takeoff followed by a big mushy wall into a nice steep inside section looking like a French beach break. Super crowded but doable. |
| Scripp's | 01/20/07 7:30 am - 9:00 am |
1 - 3' Clean short period wind swell. Stellar offshore conditions with some good looking peaks but tide was rising quickly backing it off in front of the stairs while further toward the pier the inside was a bit steeper and smackable. Pretty mediocre. |
| Chalcedony St. | 01/19/07 6:30 am - 7:30 am |
1 - 3' Left over wind swell. Super peaky but the 7' high tide was just totally backing things down. A few surfable lefts into the shore pound but thats about it. |
| La Jolla Shores | 01/18/07 6:30 am - 7:30 am |
2 - 3' Minimal north swell wrapping in with a tad of wind swell peaking. A few fun peaks doubling up on the inside but as the extreme 6.5' high tide approached it pretty much shut down. OK. |
| Hermo | 01/15/07 6:30 am - 7:30 am |
2 - 3' some 4' Minimal north swell wrapping in. Beautiful conditions again in the morning again but still very cold. Inconsistent peaks good for a few carves with just two other guys out. OK. |
| Swami's | 01/14/07 6:30 am - 9:00 am |
2 - 3' some 4' New long period north swell. Very clean and lined up just inconsistent. Wrapping beautifully on the inside for long clean rippable walls. About as cold as it gets with air temperatures at freezing at dawn and water in the balmy 57 degree range. Tide started pulling out and shut it down. Fun for awhile. |
| Scripp's | 01/13/07 6:30 am - 9:00 am |
1 - 3' Cold front pushed through the day before kicking up a substantial amount of wind swell that, of course, evaporated overnight. Small wind swell left over but clean. Air temps hovering just above freezing with a pocket of arctic air hovering above. Pretty scrappy and mushy with the odd good peak. Not very good. |
| Scripp's | 01/09/07 6:30 am - 7:30 am |
2 - 4' Medium tide in the morning with really clean conditions. Paddled out at south side in the twilight. Swell really north and inconsistent. Stringy lines mushing and then dumping close outs. Paddled to the other side of the pier and the form was much better. Some wedgy lefts and the odd right lining into the pier with no one out. Had it to myself for about a half an hour until a few guys joined me. Kind of fun. Side note: Shores around noon was really good. Was on my lunch break and just cruised down there and in the middle of the parking lot north swell sets were unloading a very rippable head high right. |
| OB Jetty | 01/08/07 6:30 am - 7:30 am |
2 - 4' some+ First one out at dawn. A tad bigger but more inconsistent with some long period northwest ground swell wrapping in. First wave was a doozy of a barrel off the bar wide and all the way through to the inside. Chased that high the rest of the session and couldn't replicate it as the tide filled in and it got weird and back-washed. |
| OB Jetty | 01/07/07 6:30 am - 8:30 am |
2 - 4' some+ Tide dropping to a medium right before dawn. Really cold this morning with stiff offshores. Some clean and racy waves swinging wide off the jetty. Not too crowded at dawn so enough to go around. Once the tide started moving in and the sun was up further, the crowd got a little to thick for what was on offer. Still managed to get some good ones with my wave in hollow as hell. |
| Swami's | 01/06/07 6:30 am - 9:30 am |
2 - 4' some+ An extremely windy front passed through the day before kicking up quite a bit of wind swell. Dropped pretty rapidly overnight but still a bit of size with some underlying ground swell. Pretty decent at dawn with the lower tide stretching the waves out good for some big carves and some nice roundies. Tide started filling in rapidly and really softened it up making it pretty mushy and inconsistent. OK. |
| Scripp's | 01/04/07 6:30 am - 7:30 am |
2 - 3' some+ Another high tide hampering things. Swell predicted for today just not here. Mostly medium period swell with a slight cross and some side-offshores from an approaching front. A few fun peaks at dawn with the lefts surfable and the rights flat faced mush. Caught a few carvable lefts but nothing great. |
| Chalcedony St. | 01/02/07 6:30 am - 7:30 am |
1 - 3' A 6.5' high tide had everywhere swamped. North PB usually can handle these high tides well. Freezing cold and howling offshore with no one out. A few nice reforms in the shore pound lining up left and right with the lefts a bit steeper. Didn't last too long in the cold and swampy conditions, although it was pretty surfable. |
| Swami's | 01/01/07 7:30 am - 10:00 am |
2 - 4' + North west ground swell overrun by a wind swell. Super high tide had it a bit swamped at dawn but by seven it was pulling out. Some fun double ups inside and as the tide pulled out the corner started showing a bit more line and size. Crowd was light probably due to it being New Year's day and the super high tide early. Kind of fun. |
