1 - 3' South pulsed up overnight. Some decent sets pushing on the high tide with some face to work with off the jetty bounce. Not real consistent but just a few guys out so pretty enjoyable. Actually had the line up all to myself for awhile. Fun. |
| Swami's | 07/30/05 9:30 am - 11:30 am |
1 - 2' Tiny pulse of southern hemi. After walking down to Black's to find flatness decided to hike back up and head north to find some of this supposed south swell. Some decent sets every once in awhile on the corner but meager in between. Surfable but barely just so. |
| Black's | 07/27/05 5:30 am - 7:00 am |
1 - 4' Tide medium as a nice north wind was hacking it up. Wind dropped right after dawn and the tide started to pull out. Remnants of southern hemi and some wind swell making for some small peaks. Still pretty fun and hitable although not the best shape. Crowd was light so that was a bonus. Mostly fast lefts but the odd right would open up well. Kind of fun. |
| Black's | 07/25/05 5:30 am - 7:00 am |
2 - 4' some + Another low tide morning. Not as big or consistent as the day before but some really good left set waves off of north peak. Oily glassy today and pretty damn rippable if you snuck into the corners that were holding. Some beautiful bombs off of middle peak but I choose to wait for the swingers that cornered at north for a higher wave count. Pretty fun. |
| Black's | 07/24/05 6:30 am - 9:00 am |
2 - 4' some 5'+ Was praying for some glass. Thankfully it had really smoothed out over night. Some beautiful lefts off north peak wedging and peeling fast on the low tide. The odd right was throwing some wedge freight trains also. Caught a smoking right that was incredible. Lefts were opening up for big swats and full rail carves. Surprisingly not the crowded especially at north peak. The majority of the crowd was trying to get the bombs off middle peak. Very good. |
| Swami's | 07/23/05 6:30 am - 9:00 am |
1 - 3' some 4'+ South swell really starting to fill in but a heinous south wind from some tropical weather has moved in just hacking the surf. Was a bit of a window of calmer winds so headed out around 6:30. Low tide had the corner working with some sectiony lines but surfable. Only a few heads out so it was pick and choose on the sets. Some holding up for a few cracks others complete junk. Wind came back up and started completely hacking the surf to pieces so barely caught a good one in. OK. |
| Black's | 07/22/05 5:30 am - 7:00 am |
2 - 3'+ New south swell just starting to show on the buoys but very inconsistent. Although it was glassy there was lots of very short period junk in the water mucking up whatever was rolling in creating mushy and sectiony waves or complete dumpers. A few lefts were holding up but not much else. Poor. |
| Scripp's | 07/20/05 5:30 am - 7:00 am |
1 - 3' Wind swell fading with a touch of south swell. Incredibly clean conditions on the low tide this morning. Killer pop up peaks between the stairs and the pier and had them all to myself early. Got a sick little tube on a right. After about 45 minutes the heads started swarming and the tide filled in softening up the peaks. Caught a few more good ones and headed in. Fun. |
| Scripp's | 07/19/05 6:00 am - 7:30 am |
2 - 3' New dose of wind swell popped up overnight. Super short interval but super clean conditions making it quite ridable. Some nice right wedges popping up between the stairs and the pier. Fun stuff. |
| Black's | 07/18/05 5:30 am - 7:00 am |
2 - 3'+ South swell still hanging in there but much weaker. Light north wind up this morning so pretty crumbly. Not to many good waves but a few slopey lefts were lining up and the odd right would throw a decent wedge. Crowd pretty thick for a Monday morning. OK. |
| Church | 07/17/05 6:30 am - 9:00 am |
2 - 4'some 5+ Another reinforcing pulse of south in the water but once again very inconsistent. Did the drive up to Church figuring Black's was going to be a zoo so why not surf a better zoo? Pretty uncrowded at first but not a whole lot of waves. Tide started to push and the very inside was cornering into the bay but still a lot of closeouts because of the pure southerly direction. Crowd started filling i heavily and Middles started showing a pretty promising peak. Caught my best waves up there that opened for some big schwacks. Lowers looked good but insanely packed. Fun. |
| OB Jetty | 07/16/05 5:30 am - 7:30 am |
2 - 4'some 5+ South swell rejuvenated overnight but still very inconsistent with pulses of 6-12 waves common with nothing in between. Thought I'd give the jetty another shot seeing that the tide was coming up and had heard that it had been better with more water. Still pretty closed out but at least the bigger sets were cornering and some waves actually doing the bounce and lining up. Not a heck of a lot of face to work with and mostly just racing the sections on most waves. What you wouldn't call great but definitely surfable. Light crowd at first becoming pretty crowded as I headed out. OK. |
| Swami's | 07/15/05 5:30 am - 7:00 am |
1 - 4'some + South swell peaked overnight and never really lived up to the hype. There were some solid sets early on the peak high tide that were pretty fun through the inside. Crowd pretty light so had the corner with just a couple of other heads that made for maximum wave count from the scraps between sets. Halfway through the session a solid 12 wave set came through and I got my best waves of the day off of a couple of these that were breaking way of the corner in front of the stairs. After that Huey shut us down and had to catch a scrap to get in. OK. |
| Swami's | 07/14/05 5:30 am - 7:00 am |
1 - 3' A new south swell on the rise but really not showing yet. A ton of short period wind slop in the water however not really focusing well into anything worthy. A few double ups on the corner when the rare southern hemi lines were starting to pulse. Became a tad better as the morning progressed but nothing good by any means. |
| Black's | 07/13/05 5:00 am - 6:30 am |
2 - 4'+ South diminished a bit while the wind swell seemed to pulse up. Everybody and there mother out probably due to the grapevines blathering about how good it was the day before. A stiff north wind on it knocking it down a bit but still some fun lefts to be had and the odd right. Crowd a problem with it pretty much max ed out. Couldn't take it for too long so headed in early. OK. |
| Black's | 07/12/05 5:30 am - 7:30 am |
2 - 4'+ A new south pulse coupled with a clean little wind swell had a-frames all over the beach. South peak and middle peak especially tasty. Some really rippable lefts with some beautifully wedging rights off of south peak. Silky glass, light crowd, and rippable waves - what more could you want. A gem of a session. |
| Black's | 07/10/05 7:00 am - 9:30 am |
1 - 2'+ South swell on the way out. Caught the remnants when I first paddled out which were some fun lefts off of south peak. As the tide turned from the negative low the southern hemi basically disappeared and the little bit of wind swell was creating a few crackable rights off of middle peak even with the wind coming up out of the southwest. Started to get pretty junked up so headed in. OK. |
| Black's | 07/09/05 5:30 am - 8:00 am |
2 - 3'+ Some south swell mixing with a tad of wind swell. Some pretty good peaks on the negative low off of south peak and middle peak going both left and right with the lefts being a bit longer and thwackable. A southeast wind blowing a bit sideshore and then laying down for a glass off. Crowd not to bad either for a weekend. Fun. |
| Black's | 07/06/05 5:30 am - 7:00 am |
2 - 3'+ Finally some halfway clean surf. Very light south wind and a negative low tide helping out the little south pulse. Some decent lefts and the odd right lining up for a couple of cracks. Nothing epic but fun compared to what has been on offer lately. |
| Scripp's | 07/06/05 5:30 am - 7:00 am |
1 - 2'+ Haven't surfed in a week. Pretty much a desperation paddle out because there was some wind swell in the water. Unfortunately small scale, weak, and a low tide not helping it. Water cold and the red tide has now lingered for over a month now which gives me pause as to the real health of our local water. Some right dumps sections to be had but overall not so hot. At least it wasn't crowded. |
