| OB Jetty | 07/30/06 7:00 am - 9:00 am |
2 - 3' some 4' Some south swell running but pretty hacked up from a steady drizzle off of a tropical cell. Still some surfable waves but sectiony. The secret was to get a bouncer that had some clean face after a set plows through. OK. |
| OB Jetty | 07/23/06 7:00 am - 9:00 am |
1 - 3' some + Watched it for about a half an hour until all the logs from the crack patrol came in. Was starting to pulse a bit though with the incoming tide and some dribbles of hurricane swell from Daniel showing up. A few fun lines to be had although a tad weak some lips were on offer. A pretty good crew paddled out so was out of there. |
| OB Jetty | 07/22/06 6:00 am - 7:30 am |
1 - 2' some + Even smaller than the day before. Just super weak and barely surfable. A few sets making it worth paddling out - barely. |
| OB Jetty | 07/21/06 6:00 am - 7:30 am |
1 - 3' some + Some small southern hemi in the water. A few nice bouncers off the jetty with a light crowd. A few smackables and long lines with a few real burgers. OK. |
| Hon'ls | 07/14/06 5:00 pm - 7:00 pm |
1 - 3' some+ Swell already on the way out. Was staying in Kailua right in front of Honl's, a pretty shallow and sketchy peak favored by sponges but can be surfed when over a couple feet. Had to be choosy with a lot of waves wedging hard and then mushing into the channel. The ideal ones barreled quickly and then lines up nicely for a few smacks and some big roundies. If you could out position the sponges you were in. OK. |
| Lyman's/Pine Trees | 07/13/06 8:30 am - 10:30 am/3:00 pm - 5:00 pm |
2 - 4' A quickly rising moderate south swell hitting Hawaii. Still not really big enough to get these reefs moving properly but enough to get it breaking. Some consistent sets and a light crowd making for some fun point lefts. Thanks to Hawaiian airlines, who destroyed my favorite 6'1" on the way over, I had to ride my bother's old slapper 6'4" which was adequate, but a bit too much board for the waves on hand. Lyman's on a small southwest is a broad takeoff over a boil to a nice wall that would allow for a few hits until it fattened up for the roundies and then if you were lucky if it lined up again. Could only imagine this place on a solid swell. In the afternoon headed out to Pine Trees because my brother swore it was going to be firing out there because of the place's penchant for being a swell magnate. South wind hacking it up and tide not high enough when we arrived. Elevators not even working while a few guys sitting on The Rock catching some very serviceable lefts. Fun paddle out in about 6 inches of water over coral and lava that would shred you just by touching it. There is a tiny keyhole straight out to The Rock so got to the lineup unscathed. Attempted to surf Elevators but ended back up at The Rock and caught some junky but rippable lefts. OK. |
| OB Jetty | 07/10/06 5:30 am - 7:00 am |
1 - 2' some 3' Reinforcing tiny southern hemi. Pretty slack at dawn but once the tide started moving some good little flurries cracking across the bar for some fun little waves. OK. |
| OB Jetty | 07/09/06 5:30 am - 7:00 am |
1 - 2'+ Very small southern hemi running at about 14 second intervals. Good little wedges at dawn opening up for a few hits but the minute the tide started pushing in too much, the lineup became weird little double ups and close outs. Surfable. |
| Thomas St. | 07/07/06 5:30 am - 7:00 am |
1 - 3' Smaller, but even sloppier wind swell this morning. Conditions clean with no wind but ocean completely hacked up and warbly. A few good rights at dawn but with a rising tide and very little power behind the wind swell, conditions deteriorated rapidly to barely surfable. |
| Thomas St. | 07/06/06 5:30 am - 7:00 am |
2 - 4' Grey and onshore at dawn. Solid but very short period wind swell running. Altough incredibly messy and a duck dive work out, pretty damn surfable with rights sliding down the beach from an extreme north angle. Some waves lining up for multiple cracks while others burgering out quickly. Pretty fun slop. |
| Thomas St. | 07/03/06 5:30 am - 7:00 am |
1 - 3' Lingering small southern hemi and wind swell. Some fun little peaks out in front of Thomas. Mostly rights with the lefts pretty weak. Fast little lines opening for a few quick thwacks. Uncrowded and fun. |
| OB Jetty | 07/02/06 6:30 am - 8:00 am |
2 - 3'+ Smaller, weaker, and more crowded. Seemed to be a bit more southern hemi in the water and less wind swell so overall pretty inconsistent. Some good waves off the bounce but pretty sectiony and not the heft of yesterday to connect. A few lips here and there but a south wind came up quickly from a huge fog bank and blew it to shreds in about 15 minutes. Not terrible but nothing great. |
| OB Jetty | 07/01/06 5:30 am - 8:00 am |
2 - 4'+ Would of been out at the crack if I could have parked in the dog beach lot. But no. The City of San Diego in all it's wisdom, which is scant to say the least, had closed the parking lot until 6 AM for the holiday weekend. Cops lurking around for violators with the threat of a tow. Anyhow, had to park way inside OB and run in because the surf had bumped up quite a bit overnight from some wind swell and some background southern hemi. Good early, with the bounce throwing some sick bowls on the inside and some solid wedges to thwack. Some waves grinding on the inner bar. Backdoored a pit that spun and gurgled with me finally pulling out straight into the flats after a solid shack. Tide started pulling out more and some really funky wind swell degraded conditions to a sectiony mess but by then I had had my fill. Fun. |
