Location Date/Time Conditions
Diamond St. 07/26/99
5:00 pm - 6:30 pm
2-3' Finally much cleaner today with just the southern hemi showing but also much smaller and inconsistent, but the left off Diamond was pretty lined up on the sets, although a little mushy and sectiony in places but there was some rippable ones pushing through.
Diamond St. 07/25/99
7:30 am - 8:30 am
2-3' + Real glassy this morning but still very junky. The high tide was helping out holding up some lefts out front. Charged it, although it looked pretty closed out and warbly. Was able to select a few choice lefts that were wedging from the combo swell. Saw one guy get a sweet wedge that spat on him. Way over hyped south swell once again.
Parking Lot - Law 07/24/99
10:00 am - 1:00 pm
2-3' + Was looking like it was coming on after a week of flatness, but the only problem was that it was looking real junky with a small southern hemi running with a super junk west wind swell just trashing things up. Went out at the Lot first which was kind of mushy and quite not doing it, although I got a few fun shoulder high ones. Moved on down the beach when the manic longboard crew got out and it became impossible to get a wave. Law had a left off a rip for awhile but then the tide started dropping rapidly and was closing out hard. Cliffs might have been the call today.
Diamond St. - Emerald St. 07/17/99
10:00 am - 2:00 pm
1-3' Hurricane swell had pretty much started to fizzle this morning with the sets much smaller than yesterday but the good news is that a little north west wind swell is mixed in to break up the lines and make it surfable. Real fun smackable lefts while the tide was pushing up from real low. Kind of got mushy while the tide got real high but then down the beach the inside started breaking with some real fun lefts and the odd right coming through, although you had to be choosy.
San Diego 07/15/99
evening
2-3' Beatriz starting to show. Super south - you can see the lines wrapping in. No where around here breaking good, either mush on the reefs or closing out at the beaches from Windan to Mission. Blacks might have been the call but didn't feel like going by the time I got home. Saw some decent sized sets at the Drive but no form what so ever.
Windansea 07/14/99
6:30 am - 8:15 am
2-4' South swell has shifted very south to about 180 degrees. Looked good on the low tide when I pulled up, although a little slow, but reforming nicely in sections. Get out there and it is worse than it looks - my second day of super mush. Really slow, although some rare ones or large sets hitting the reef would really line up nicely. Got a few of these. Actually got one all the way through into the shore pound. This session has totally convinced me that this place is low on my totem pole of good waves. Crowd got real thick with the early morning crew going in and the late morning crew messing the line up. One asshole out there, you know who you are, who basically, if he wasn't getting everything in his path would drop in on anyone or make sure someone else couldn't get the wave. People like that give surfers a bad name. Got a good one in and was very thankful.
Bird Rock 07/13/99
4:30 pm - 7:00 pm
2-3'+ South swell looked to already have peaked. I think I blew it last night by surfing the point. Looked like the sets were breaking good but when I got out there there was minimal sets and then when they would come through the waves weren't holding up over the reef well at all - super mush. Waited for the middle section to throw something my way but never quite happened. Ziggy's wasnt really in effect at all with the weak swell barely pushing through into it until the tide came up and by then the swell was fizzling hard. Caught two waves all the way through into Ziggy's and thank god went in on one after the crowd reached ridiculous levels.
PB Point. 07/12/99
5:00 pm - 7:00 pm
2-3' Some real inconsistent south swell running that was cleaner than it has been but even more inconsistent. Closing out out front real bad. Point had a few with no one out but then it became packed after about 45 minutes and a lot softer with the rising tide. Got a few more good ones and took off. Bird might have been good but looked from afar real inconsistent and with a lot of guys out. Looks like a real good K-38 swell.
Diamond St. 07/11/99
5:00 pm - 6:30 pm
2 - 3' Mixed up swell but south predominating. Looked along the coast to to Leo Carillo and it was soft, closed out or weird at County line etc but looked like it had potential at Leo but was mushy and then closing out. Probably better at a different tide but it was packed everywhere. Nixed even attempting going into Malibu or Topanga on a Sunday afternoon (traffic is a joke) and so ended up surfing out front which was pretty fun. Fun left right of Diamond that no one seemed to interested in for some reason. Their loss.
C Street 07/10/99
10:00 am - 12:00 pm
1 - 2' some 3' Was expecting it to be be a bit better up here than it was. Was up in Ventura for a wedding and thought it would be pulling in the south swell. Very sectiony, weak and basically crappy waves pulling across the point. C-Street better than Fairgrounds because it was lining up better on the far inside. Actually caught a few real fun ones at the beginning but after the tide dropped it became real crappy. Actually looked better around 4:00 with the tidal push, but had to go to the wedding.
Missouri St. 07/08/99
4:00 pm - 8:00 am
2 - 4' Nice south swell mixed in with some north west making for some real nice fast peaks. All lefts that would line up for about a block or so and then close out on the inside. Water is finally warm and the tropical weather was keeping it real glassy. Surfed forever cause it was so fun. Took a half hour dinner break and paddled back out.
Parking Lot 07/07/99
6:00 am - 8:00 am
2 - 3' A nice little wind swell running out of the north west with trace south swell in it. Parking lot actually lining up nicely with a new sand bar out there. Tide wasn't optimal but was still lining up better than anywhere else around here.
Missouri St. 07/04/99
9:00 am - 11:00 am
1 - 2' some 3' A little better than the day before but still pretty weak. A little bigger on the sets and a little more punchy but overall still pretty weak.
Missouri St. 07/04/99
8:00 am - 9:30 am
1 - 2' Small and not very good for the 4th. A few slappies but overall small and weak although there were a few that were lining up nicely.
