Location Date/Time Conditions
Bird Rock 06/28/00
5:00 pm - 7:00 pm
2' - 4' Swell has filled in but still lacking in consistency. Every surf star in San Diego has converged on the reefs. Silly crowd but manageable because most of these guys have no clue how this place works. Surfed the inside for awhile which was the only thing happening on the high tide. Slowly creeped outside as the sets started pushing through. Mostly round housy today because of the lack of real consistent size. The sets were breaking beautifully but there was only about 4 or so per set. There was a huge sneaker set of about 5 waves well overhead that caught everybody by surprise. Managed to catch one good set wave that solidly lined up and stood up all the way through. As the tide started filling in Ziggy's started to show as finally some wave consistency. Once again another over hyped south swell that would be good if you could surf it with about 5 people.
Blacks 06/27/00
5:30 pm - 7:00 pm
2 - 3' some 4' New swell barely showing. Watched Bird Rock for fifteen minutes and saw only two, albeit, good sets roll through so decided to head on down to Blacks hoping for more. Wasn't much more when I first got out. Super inconsistent and the small windswell slop was helping to knock things down also. Tide started to fill in more as did the swell. Conditions started to get better as the lefts started feeling the inside sandbar. Caught a few nice lined up waves but most were real sectiony or closed.
Blacks 06/24/00
7:30 am - 9:30 am
1 - 2' some 3' Same conditions as Thursday but more consistent and a bit better formed with low tide. Crowded however with Blacks being the only place in town with waves. Caught some really fun lefts off towards south peak and tried to catch a few rights but the good ones were alluding me. Fun session for being so small. Water is probably pushing the low 70s.
Blacks 06/22/00
5:00 pm - 7:00 pm
1 - 2' Almost flat. A very small and inconsistent southern hemi running. Beautiful conditions however, with a light wind and warm, crystal clear water. A few waist high lefts bumping off middle peak but it was very, very inconsistent. The ones that did come through early on had good form lining up all the way through. Tidal shift later made it more closed out as the session progressed.
Blacks 06/14/00
2:00 pm - 4:00 pm
2 - 4'Background south swell hitting Black's about every five to ten minutes or so with some smaller wind swell waves coming through but not as powerful. Decent lefts off of middle peak with south peak showing nada. Tide a bit too full, plus with the wind making for kind of crumbly and semi closed out conditions but definitely still very surfable and much bigger than anywhere else around town.
Scripps 06/13/00
2:00 pm - 4:00 pm
1 - 2'+Swell is pretty shot. Still some decent sets coming through but once the tide came in it was small slow crap. Knew I missed it the night before where it looked hot and glassy and the buoys were reading twice the size from another windswell. Morning crowd here sucks too.
Scripps 06/11/00
2:00 pm - 4:00 pm
2 - 3'+ Windswell still hanging in their with some actual background ground swell out of the northwest. A bit slow and mushy on the incoming tide in places but there was a good left off a rip south of the stairs that I had been watching that looked good but was elusive. Once the tide really started pushing there were some good hittable shoulder high lefts busting off the rip. Not bad - sun was out and the water had a few warm spots.
Missouri St. 06/10/00
6:00 am - 7:00 am
2 - 3'+ Windswell coming strong but form a bit closed out and the power was lacking. Basically kind of weird waves. Water temps have fallen again. A few decent lefts. Mediocre session.
