| Black's | 06/30/03 6:30 am - 8:30 am |
2 - 3' some 4'+ New southwest swell and some wind swell creating some good rippable lefts up and down the beach with the focus around south peak. A little inconsistent on the bigger ones but still really rippable none the less. Oodles of fun waves until the tide started pushing in and kind of softening it up a bit. Good. |
| OB Jetty | 06/27/03 6:30 am - 8:30 am |
1 - 3' some 4'+ Remnants of south swell still pulsing through but very inconsistently. Super ridiculously crowded probably due to that it was the only place breaking for miles around. Anyhow, despite the crowd played the patience game and ended up with a few good ones. OK. |
| OB Jetty | 06/26/03 6:30 am - 8:30 am |
2 - 3' some 4'+ South hanging in there with less wind swell mix. Jetty was pulling in some speed wedges good for lip cracking. A bit inconsistent but enough coming in to satisfy everyone. North wind not ruffling it up too bad because the jetty blocks a lot of north wind. Caught some pretty smoking waves that were opening up nicely for some big hits. A few throaty pits right off the jetty on the sets. Saw one guy get the sickest pit I've seen in awhile. Good. |
| K-38 | 06/25/03 5:30 am - 8:30 am |
3 - 4' some 5'+ South swell getting a bit jumbled by the wind swell mix. Blowing offshore with clear skies for a change but didn't last long as the marine layer moved in and it glassed off. Some good waves pushing across the point when the tide was lower. A few good whackable sections off the drop then fattening up for some roundies. Better waves really close to the rocks lining up nicely. Swell was really inconsistent so the sneaker sets were catching everyone by surprise. Good but nothing epic. |
| Scripp's | 06/24/03 5:30 am - 7:00 am |
1 - 2' some 3' A lot smaller and much more junky from very short period wind swell. Wasn't catching diddly at first with teh right being really weak. After about a half an hour the tide finally started pushing and some lefts and rights through for a couple of whacks here and there. Overall pretty uninspiring. |
| Scripp's | 06/23/03 6:30 am - 8:30 am |
1 - 2' some 3'+ Pretty glassy this morning but more mixed up from a pretty strong south west wind from yesterday afternoon. Seemed a bit better on the fuller tide when I first got out where some lefts were lining up nicely. As the tide dropped the wind came up out of the southwest blowing it out. Caught a good right in so it was all right. Crowd was a bit out of hand. Borderline on the fun side. |
| Scripps's | 06/22/03 6:30 am - 8:30 am |
1 - 2' some 3'+ Small but super clean. The only place in town handling these south winds well. Lacking a little oomph at first but as the tide started dropping out it the corners were pretty rippable. Caught a bunch of nice hittable rights and then a bunch of racy lefts. Crowd wasn't too bad but not great. Fun. |
| Swami's | 06/21/03 5:30 am - 8:30 am |
1 - 2' some 3'+ Pretty weak at first on the high going low but as the tide dropped out and a new little west southwest filled in it became much better. Some fun little race tracks through the inside. South wind stayed more off/sideshore so was relatively clean. Fun. |
| Swami's | 06/18/03 7:00 am - 9:00 am |
1 - 2' some 3' After surviving a full day of jury duty yesterday without getting on a jury I was able to get back to the normal morning routine. Small pulses of south swell sneaking through VERY inconsistently. A couple clean one to two smack waves. A few sets swinging wide for a couple zippers. Got a good one in at least. Pretty weak but not completely terrible. |
| Swami's | 06/16/03 7:00 am - 9:00 am |
1 - 3' some 4' Same north wind swell as yesterday but tide was even lower today so headed to Swami's. Was a little hesitant at first because of a massive bruise on the inside of my right foot from yesterday's session causing a little tenderness in the arch. Overcame the slight discomfort after awhile so not that big of a deal. One of those injuries that looks worse than it feels. Some fun slopey peaks on the low. As the tide moved in the inside finally started showing a bit of life. Caught a few good zippy little waves in there that made the session worth while. |
| La Jolla Shores | 06/15/03 9:00 am - 11:00 am |
2 - 3' some 5'+ South swell had vaporized. Super low tide at dawn so wasn't really even on planning to surf. Checked the buoys at 8:00 again and saw a pretty good boost up in the wind swell. On a whim gave the Shores a shot. One of those classic north wind swell days that only the Shores can produce. Clean lefts breaking off the north end of the parking lot while some rights were breaking further towards the tower but that was long board hell (another place overrun by goons a lá Tourmaline). Really consistent and some pretty big sets pushing through. Caught lots of lined up lefts that were good for some cranking. Stayed nice and glassy the whole time. Somehow managed to whack my foot on my board pulling out of a wave. Not too shabby besides the foot injury. |
| Black's | 06/14/03 6:00 am - 9:00 am |
2 - 3' some 4' Wasn't expecting much but was pleasantly surprised to see some crossed up glassy peaks. A tad of southern hemi with a predominant north west wind swell running. A little soft but the lefts were holding up a bit for some whacks while the tide was low. A funky transition period between tides was offering not a hell of a lot to ride but once the tide started pushing north peak was dishing up some clean lefts and the odd lined up right. Fun. |
| OB Jetty | 06/13/03 6:00 am - 9:00 am |
2 - 3' some 4'+ After yesterday's dismal surf at Swami's I was pumped to get something good. Had a gut feeling that the jetty would be pulling in the 180º swell better than most places. Was pulling it in but a bit closed out on the low making for just drop and run waves. Started opening up a bit more as the tide filled in and the west wind died off. Got pretty crackable for awhile but you still had to choose carefully. Lots of water up the nose from bad choices. Fun. |
| Swami's | 06/12/03 6:30 am - 9:00 am |
1 - 3' some + Well the swell has ended in a whimper. Very inconsistent and weak. A little bit of wind swell mix not helping it out either. Oh well. Didn't catch too many waves that were good or memorable. Just real mushy and weak. A few little insiders had potential but weren't lining up quite right. Trestles might of been the call. Mediocre at best. |
| K-38 | 06/11/03 5:30 am - 9:00 am |
3 - 5' some 6' + Southern hemi still hanging in there. Dave, Sterling and myself the first out for about 20 minutes just trading some nice head high glassy walls. Pack started showing up but plenty to go around. As the tide filled in the waves breaking more towards the rocks were nice and steep and very carvable. After over 3 hours I was having a hard time going in because it just kept on coming. Got a nice rare tube on a head high peeler and finally decided to paddle back around the point to go in. |
| Bird Rock | 06/10/03 5:00 am - 7:00 am |
3 - 5' some 6' + Yesterday's southern hemi had peaked but a new one had filled in which seemed a bit more south. Inconsistent. Just myself and another guy at the crack and we traded some solid sets for about a half an hour until some other guys joined us. Ziggy's not really working properly but the peak had a solid glassy wall for some big carves and roundies. Some big bomb sets sneaking up every once in awhile cleaning the lineup. Good. |
| Swami's | 06/09/03 6:30 am - 9:00 am |
3 - 5' some 6' + Swell really jacked up over night. The swell was inconsistent and a bit too south for Swami's making it sectiony. Corner was about chest high and super fast but a bit jumbled from a south wind. Was getting a bit strange as the tide started dropping out so headed on over to the peak where some solid peaks were starting to show. Waves were sectioning off down the line but there were some solid drops and a couple big carves before closing out towards the corner. Pretty fun. |
| Swami's | 06/08/03 6:00 am - 8:00 am |
1 - 3' Southern hemi barely starting to show. Wind light but persistent out of the west. A few soft little peelers off the corner but too crowded for what was on offer. OK |
| Black's | 06/05/03 6:00 am - 8:00 am |
1 - 2' It was about as small as it gets at Black's and still surfable. It was questionable however. I stood and watched it for about 10 minutes and seriously contemplated turning around and hiking back up. Glad I forced myself out though. Some fun little left corners to be had that were lining up for a few cracks. By no means anything great but surfable t least. |
| Newbreak | 06/03/03 6:30 am - 9:00 am |
2 - 3' some 4' Clean dose of west southwest swell pushing through the cliffs. Another negative tide pushing in high helping things out. No tubes but plenty of wall to crack today. Add that with a light crowd and it was plenty fun. |
| Swami's | 06/02/03 6:30 am - 9:00 am |
2 - 3' some 4'+ Bit more southern hemi and what appears to be a north west swell in the water. Inconsistent but really clean and super rippable when the sets were coming through. Had the inside ledge all to myself for almost an hour while everyone surfed the peak. Tide shifted and moved over to the peak for a little bit but I wasn't liking the soft shoulders so headed back to the corner where I got quite a few more fun waves that were super lined up. Fun. |
| Swami's | 06/01/03 7:00 am - 9:00 am |
1 - 3' some + Both the south swell and the wind swell looking pretty reduced from yesterday. A lot of waiting around for the corner to produce some inside ledgers but when they did come through they were pretty rippable. Tide filled in a bit more shifting the line up around and softening it up. Still a few fun ones to be had but crowd was thickening so went in. OK. |
