Location Date/Time Conditions
Black's 06/29/05
5:30 am - 7:00 am
1 - 3'+ South swell barely hanging on. Small inconsistent and weak. Add this with wind swell slop mixed in and it was a case of maybe I should have stayed in bed. Never fear though your not going to surf Black's alone. At least twenty of my closest friends joined in to surf the slop. Maybe caught three decent waves. Poor.
Windansea 06/28/05
5:00 am - 7:00 am
3 - 5'+ South swell hanging in there. Angle on the swell is pretty south and also has a weird lump in it. Light onshores but Windan handling it well. Had some size at dawn with some sets going overhead. Had to be choosy because the peaks were either really soft and flat faced after the drop or full on freight trains. Caught a few good ones just inside of the pack on the outside that lined up pretty well for a couple of schwacks but was feeling I needed a bit of bigger board on these broad faced waves to slow me down and hold. One wave my little swallow tail totally spun out on the bottom turn. Always a tricky wave unless it's completely firing. Caught quite a few decent ones until the crowd got close to being dangerously crowded. OK.

5:30 am - 7:30 am
2 - 4'+ South swell filled in a bit more overnight but still very inconsistent. Tide dropping to another negative low. A bit of morning sickness not helping conditions out either with some channel chop and scrappy little wind swell mucking up the lineup. Lots of guys out early because no swell is a secret any more. A few bouncers off the jetty but most of the waves shutting down quickly. A few were allowing for full on freight train pump turns but more likely than not most of the waves that were coming through were closeouts. Tide problem or sand bar problem? Hard to say but I'm leaning toward poor sandbar because the Jetty is almost universally better on a low tide. Had a nagging little voice in my head to got to Windansea. Should of listened to it. Poor.

6:30 am - 10:30 am
2 - 3'+ South swell way over hyped. Not filtering in to San Diego well at all either. Negative low tide again early actually creating some hollow peaks but consistency a major problem. Some waves lining up off the corner to the sand but these were rare. Crowd light because it was probably better somewhere else like Ponto or Trestles. Anyhow, tide filled in and really started hampering the surf. What little bit of swell filtering to this part of the coast was soft and weak with the added tide. OK.
Scripps 06/23/05
5:30 am - 7:00 am
1 - 3' Another burst of short period wind swell. Southwest winds a bit of problem over the last three days and continuing this morning makeing for surf that was sloppy and weak but peaky on the negative low tide sand bars near the pier. A few good little ones that opened up a bit but overall not so hot.
OB Jetty 06/20/05
5:30 am - 7:00 am
2 - 4' South swell had a reinforcing pulse. Lots of short period slop in the mix too jumbling it up however. Still inconsistent but some good sized sets every 5 to 10 minutes. Doing the wedge bounce early as the tide came off a negative low. Really the only wave to surf and about 5 guys on it early. Sat deep and got some good bouncers just opening up enough to smack and then thread the tube until it closed out. Tide moved in more shutting the bounce down. Had to move over to the corner that had the odd wave hold up and not dump across the bay. OK.

5:30 am - 8:00 am
2 - 4' More south swell in the water but the wind swell had taken a hike. Inconsistent at best. A few good ones as the tide started filtering in but overall a bit on the weak side. Water has taken a 5 degree drop but a positive side effect is that it killed the heinous red tide plaguing the area over the past week or so. OK.
Swami's 06/18/05
5:30 am - 9:00 am
2 - 5' Extremely windy the day before starting at dawn and really not letting up for about 24 hours. A pretty stiff west wind on it but starting to lay down a bit at dawn. Plenty of northwest wind swell and medium period north swell in the water but a mess from all the local wind. South swell just starting to show too. A little soft and limp at first but as the tide started moving in the corner came alive with some pretty rippable wedges popping up. Crowd, which was problematic at first, disappeared as me and a few locs took over the inside. Pretty fun.
OB Jetty 06/16/05
5:00 am - 7:00 am
2 - 4' South still lingering with a little bit of wind swell. Winds on it early out of the south south east but laying down after about a half an hour. Inconsistent but thats OK when your the only one out. Some wedge bouncers allowing for some quick hitties and some tube time. Couldn't believe that I was the only one out for about an hour as I kept thinking to myself, "The hordes are coming," but they never did. Tide started moving in and started closing it out a bit more so went in as a few guys came out. Fun.

5:00 am - 7:00 am
2 - 4'+ south still hanging around and conditions a bit cleaner than it has been lately with just a light south east wind. Some wedges off the jetty that were super fast but pretty fun. Some opening up for some quick hitties while others just speed runs down the line. Crowd pretty light with about 5 guys out. Fun.
Swami's 06/14/05
5:00 am - 7:00 am
2 - 4' Some sets early but as the tide started pulling out all hope was lost as the consistency dropped to a trickle and the crowd reached silly proportions. OK.
Swami's 06/13/05
5:00 am - 7:00 am
2 - 5' New southern hemi at about 220 degrees. A tad inconsistent but I had the rare pleasure of surfing completely alone for about 20 minutes this morning. Caught about 10 waves on the inside corner that were super fun as the southern hemi bent over the inside reef. Crowd arrived, the tide started pulling out, and I was pretty much over it an hour in but kept on coming back for more. Barely got a good one in but at least I had that morning magic to myself.
Swami's 06/12/05
5:30 am - 8:30 am
2 - 5' Wind swell bumped up overnight. Some pretty meaty peaks breaking on the outside lining up all the way through. Pretty rippable but as the tide pulled out things slowed down a bit. Moved inside and waited for the sets to swing wide and managed to pull down a few good ones. Fun.
Swami's 06/11/05
5:30 am - 8:30 am
2 - 4' More wind swell and a touch of background south. A few good ones early off the peak that were lining up but as usual the crowd got thick and so I returned to the inside were a few inconsistent waves were peeling through. Kind of fun but nothing great.
Scripp's 06/10/05
5:00 am - 6:30 am
2 - 4' Wind swell has smoothed out overnight but about half the size. Peak low was pretty good but as the tide moved in it fattened up and a south west wind was crumbling it up. OK.
Scripp's 06/09/05
5:00 am - 6:30 am
3 - 5'+ A strong shot of very short period wind swell. Scripps was pretty much the only option in the stiff south winds. Actually some low tide sandbars but it was pick and choose and get walloped when I first paddled out between the stairs and the pier. It was good to watch the long boarding fools get pummeled however. Things settled down a bit and I found a pretty good bar south of the stairs dishing up some pretty fun but messy rights. Kind of fun.
Swami's 06/08/05
5:00 am - 7:00 am
1 - 3'+ Both swells just a shell of their former self. Not a soul out at dawn so paddled out to the peak and caught a couple of sets on the peak low tide. Conditions quickly deteriorated with a lack of swell and a bunch of clowns paddling out. Verging on poor.
Swami's 06/07/05
5:00 am - 7:00 am
2 - 4'+ Even more wind swell in the water again coupled with background southern hemi. Another negative low tide creating some wedge peaks on the outside. Surfed this at first when the crowd was light for a few good ones but once it thickened up sat on the inside corner which was throwing mercilessly. Looked for the tube all morning and finally was rewarded with a couple of nice shacks. Pretty fun.

5:00 am - 7:00 am
2 - 4'+ More wind swell in the water again coupled with what I think is the epic Fiji swell which after its long journey between the southern Pacific islands is just a blip but a powerful blip nonetheless every 20 minutes of so. I was the first one out in the heavily morning sick conditions with light rain and a stiff southwest wind. Negative tide not helping either but at least it was turning around. Some wedgy peaks on the outside that every once in awhile had enough face to connect the dots. As the tide moved in and the wind laid down some better waves peaking up off mid peaks good for some roundies and a few solid lips. Fun.
Swami's 06/04/05
6:30 am - 9:30 am
1 - 3'+ An unexpected boost in wind swell overnight. Some fun and rippable waves on the inside and even some peaks on the outside going to shoulder high. south winds not to much of a problem and the crowd bugged out early. Fun.
Scripp's 06/03/05
5:30 am - 7:00 am
1 - 2'+ Swell out the door but super clean. Actually some really fun tiny peaks near the pier until the tide filled in and completely shut it down.
Scripp's 06/02/05
5:30 am - 7:00 am
2 - 4'+ Another day of eddy winds but Scripp's nice and glassy. Finally some waves with what appears to be a medium period swell out of the northwest. Some pretty fun peaks up an down the beach but midway between the pier and the stairs dishing up the best rights good for a few cracks. Pretty fun although crowded as hell.
Scripp's 06/01/05
5:30 am - 7:00 am
2 - 3' A little bigger today with a mix of wind swell and a tiny bit of southern hemi but quite inconsistent. Tried surfing front of the stairs but just to mushy so slowly worked my way toward the pier where I eventually ended up surfing alone. Some very inconsistent sets peaking next to the pier and peeling off for a couple of turns but pretty weak overall.
