Location Date/Time Conditions
Missouri St. 03/24/00
5:00 pm - 6:30 pm
3 - 5'+ What a difference 24 hours makes. Shit this morning with junky and smaller conditions than the night before, but this evening was good. Good lefts firing through out front reforming all the way through. Lots of punch to this swell. Seems to have a little of south component. Should be good tommorow morning with identical conditions. Didn't have lots of water time but it was quality water time.

5:00 pm - 6:30 pm
3 - 6'+ Stormy choppy windswell with ground swell underneath. Went out to go out. La Jolla Reefs strangely small. It was generally a mess, which the beaches have been for awhile with these real junky swells. Caught a couple of thick lefts that would hold up for awhile before slamming shut. Massive sets ploughing through breaking way outside about every fifteen minutes. On the few wedgy waves coming through this funboarder had the bead on every time while I watched from the shoulder a few too many times. Guy even paddled around me with no regard for my position. What a wave hog prick. Luckily caught a left in. Hopefully be better tomorrow but looking at the forecast for more strong winds on the outer waters I doubt it.

2 - 3'+ Same conditions we have had for about three days - a medium sized lumpy north west swell running with the beach breaks looking hideous, so I dragged my ass down to the cliffs. Light mellow crowd with some warbly waves over the reef. No real tubes to be had but some nice lined up sections that were pretty good for wacking. A few waves had that "chase the peak" feel to it from the crossed up swell that were real fun. Pretty hard to have a bad session here.

5:00 pm - 6:00 pm
2 - 3' Debated for awhile when I got home from work wether it was worth going out but said, "What the heck I'll at least catch a couple good ones." Warbly medium tide swell that had a few sections going for it. There has been a large ground swell running but the angle has been to steep to really hit here. Cliffs maybe? Unfortunately I have to work. Caught a real nice left and other a few other lefts but the rights were way below form and pretty unsurfable. Beautiful evening with mild Santa Ana winds and glassy conditions.

8:00 am - 10:00 am
2 - 4' Swell had backed down quite a bit overnight. Combined with the real high tide out front was peaky up and down the beach with there being a consistent right hander straight out. Still packing a punch so it was reforming all the way through. Got a ton of good rights and lefts. Real fun.

9:00 am - 1:30 pm
2 - 6' A solid long period northwest had hit with a little bit of south mixed in starting yesterday. Inconsistent but some real big sets pushing through, especially on the lower tide. Decide to make the call to go to church and get Dave to go with. Drive on to base but they were doing a military ID check because they are having a contest at Middles and guess what? I don't have one so we had to go the traditional route and actually walk. Anyhow, waves were looking good through the inside on the high tide. Got a few nice ones when we first got out but the change in the tide and inconsistency was starting to make things frustrating. Finally when the tide started to drop things really started coming on. Walls and some barrels peeling through beautifully from the cross past the lifeguard station and on the outside some waves connecting all the way through. Heavy fog kept things glassy all day. By the time I got in we had been out for over 4 hours. Marathon session.

8:00 am - 10:00 am
2 - 4'+ Increase in swell but super junky from real strong winds out past the channel islands destroying any swell we're getting. Still there were some good waves coming across the reef at Nubes - you just had to be choosy. Actually got some good waves that, although sectiony and warbly, were stringing together and throwing some really hitable lips in places. Morning crew went in and for almost the whole time I was out there was only about three other guys out with me which is a major rarity. Tide started getting lower and the junkiness was getting worse. Outside was a mess so moved on the inside and got probably the best barrel of the season with a complete double up reform that sucked completely round yards ahead of me and shot through the back door. Nice.

6:30 am - 8:00 am
1 - 3' Small and peaky this morning with some real nice sections that were hitable on the low tide. Nice little right busting off the Capri with a little left on the other s die of a small channel. Conditions lasted for about an hour until the tide got too high and then it turned to mush.
Missouri St. 03/07/00
6:30 am - 8:00 am
2 - 4'+ Storm surf that looked somewhat peaky on the lower tide so I decide to go out by the Pier which looked like it had some wedgy peaks. Get out there and I don't see theses wedgy peaks but I do see a lot of storm mush close out crap. A total struggle to get anything good, especially since I'm still real sore form snowboarding. Drift down toward Chalcedony St. and the tide started filling in. Waves were now coming at real short intervals but getting a little more peaky when about 5 guys joined me. Somehow scratched into a wedging overhead left that I got to wack a couple of times. Felt good after that but couldn't get dick for waves. By now the tide was real full and moved on into the way inside were there was a mushy right reform. Caught one of those and thankfully went in. Almost paddled in.

6:30 am - 8:00 am
2 - 3'+ Super junky small swell that was the first thing that looked surfable out from all week. Had to get some because I was leaving for Mammoth for 5 days. A few fun lined up rights that were warbly. Caught a left towards the end of the session that was real lined up and screamed for over a block. Should of been happy with that and went in but went out for some more and got skunked.
