Newbreak 03/31/03
8:00 am - 11:30 am
2 - 3' some 4+ New west swell that is really clean but super inconsistent - 10 waves every five to ten minutes and some even longer lulls. Headed down to the cliffs around peak high tide and watched for awhile and spied some sets with nobody out. Offshores still blowing pretty good. When I first get down on the beach at Nubes a 10 wave set unfurls while I'm inside and have to watch it go unridden. Paddle out and wait for about 5 minutes for another one of those sets. Even on high waves holding up pretty well. Tide finally started pulling out and the offshores slackened while two guys joined me. Some rippable and oily glass waves. More and more guys showing up so finally went in. Pretty fun.
Swami's 03/29/03
6:00 am - 8:00 am
1 - 3' some + Swell a lot cleaner but also really fading. Still some little zippers through the inside and the offshores still howling away. A complete and large pack of goons top off this scenario. Oh well.

7:00 am - 9:30 am
2 - 3' some 4+ Wind swell had cleaned up somewhat overnight and some new longer period energy showing as well. Tide kind of hurting it but it was moving out so waited a half an hour and then headed out. Some fun ones if you picked the right one to line up. Pretty crackable through the inside. Tide started moving out and the offshores kicked in grooming the slop into some razor straight lines. Some good speed burns and a few tubes. Pretty fun.

6:30 am - 9:30 am
1 - 3' some 4+ Super chop slop today but there was swell, lots of wind swell. Headed down to the cliffs about an hour after peak tide. Not a soul around or so I thought. I'm almost around the corner to Nubes when I see someone paddle out! Not conditions for two cats at the moment; maybe when the tide drops a bit more. Anyhow, bowing to him getting there first I let him scrounge the peak while I scrounged the inside figuring I would outlast him when it got better later anyhow. Well I did and it got considerably better as the tide dropped out. Down right rippable. Had to wait for the right ones to line up but when they did they were quite fun. Shared it with one other guy when the other guy paddled in. Not bad.
Black's 03/26/03
6:00 am - 8:30 am
1 - 3' some + Super dense fog this morning. Couldn't see more than 20 yards when I first got down. The high going low, and small wind swell mix kind of hurting it. The beach has been raped of sand so the sand bars are in bad shape. You could tell because there was still a bit of south swell but the bars are deep and chewed out so the waves were just kind of mushing and dumping. A few lefts off north peak and then off middle peak some double up lefts good for some carves, but as the tide started draining it got increasingly shitty. Had to go in but couldn't get one. Finally nabbed a short left. Mediocre.

6:00 am - 8:30 am
2 - 3' some + Much cleaner today with light overcast and no wind. Small southern hemi running with some left over west creating some really fun rippable waves on the inside when I first paddled out, probably due to a fuller tide. A couple of tubes to be had. Tide started moving out quickly and the action slowly started moving towards the peak which had some good drops but wasn't quite lining up as good. Still pretty fun with a really light crowd.
Swami's 03/24/03
6:00 am - 8:00 am
2 - 3' some + Hideous south wind keeping guys out of the water. Not really a deterrent for me seeing there was a light crowd. A bit of north west and a new southern hemi running. Some pretty decent and rippable waves off the peak today if you were patient and waited for those southern hemi sets that were feeling the reef. Nice to surf this place with just a handful of people.
Newbreak 03/23/03
6:00 am - 8:30 am
2 - 3' some + Wind swell and north west swell on the decline but still some waves pushing through. Just a few heads out that had beat me to the punch but they were cool with plenty of waves to go around. Tide medium at first and a bit better with keeping things smooth and lining up. Tide was sucking out fast kind of sectioning the shape and draining the size but still pretty fun though you had to be choosy. Never more than 4 guys out at a time so it was a good time.
Newbreak 03/22/03
12:00 pm - 2:00 pm
3 - 4' some + What a killer day. Hadn't been out in the afternoon in a long while. Light wind and warm temperatures. A nice mix of north west swell and some wind swell keeping things pretty active. Nubes pretty rippable on the medium tide. Not real hollow but lots of face to crank on. Light crowd and just oodles of waves. Super fun.

6:30 am - 9:00 am
2 - 4' some 5+ New north west swell just starting to show. Still the ever present wind swell mixed in but some cleanies were squeaking through underneath. Surfed the corner while the tide was still pretty low and got a couple of good slots and a few long ones. Swell really started coming on and it was just getting better and better, especially around mid peak. Really fun.

6:30 am - 8:00 am
2 - 3' some + Kind of sluggish junk today. A few decent waves but overall just pretty slow and mushy left over wind swell. Highly uninspiring.
Swami's 03/19/03
6:00 am - 9:00 am
3 - 5' some + A lot smaller and way more crowded. Still some good ones but pretty mushy and still really junky overall. Patience was key. Caught a couple good ones throught the inside but nothing like yesterday. So, so.
Swami's 03/18/03
6:00 am - 9:00 am
4 - 6' some 8'+ Big and junky swell. Just the crew that likes the big stuff today so minimal crowd. Had to be real choosy to get the lined up ones but when you did it was well worth it. Caught a couple that were just complete steam rollers that lined up all the way through adn then managed to get a pretty solid pit. Good to get the adrenaline pumping again. Pretty fun.
Swami's 03/15/03
6:00 am - 9:00 am
3 - 5' some 6'+ South swell still hanging in there with a new west swell. Pretty solid but super packed at dawn. Surfed the inside while the tide was still not too high. Pretty rippable and speedy. Tide started coming up real high so moved outside a bit more and the crowd started thinning a bit so plenty of waves for the savvy. Fast and carvable, some a bit too fast from the mixed swell giving some waves a sick u-shape. Some pretty good sets steam rolling the line up every once in awhile. Was fortunate to catch a corner of one of these which was easily my best wave of the day. Super fun - only exhaustion brought me in.
OB Jetty 03/14/03
7:00 am - 9:00 am
2 - 4'+ Pretty good south swell running. Only problem was some major morning sickness going on blowing out just about everywhere. Wind from the north so decided to head on into OB after checking La Jolla and PB. Not a bad call with the jetty holding off the wind and the south swell really focusing on the it. Some pretty rippable waves. Super fast but holding up for some good cracks and a few tubes on the high tide. Lots of waves to go around on the corner with most guys opting for the jetty bounce. Tide started shifting out making it more hollow but a hair to fast. Still pretty good though.
Newbreak 03/12/03
6:30 am - 9:00 am
1 - 2' the rare 3' A little shot of wind swell and small pulses of west southwest swell barely keeping things surfable. 1 guy out at Abbs and a few at North Garbage, but for the most part the Cliffs were a ghost town. Saw some little southwest bumps pushing through Nubes so headed down hoping it would get better with a tide drain. Pretty unsurfable at first until the tide dropped out and then very inconsistent little zippy waves. Tide really started moving out and for about 20 minutes a window appeared that had it pretty rippable and consistent. Some guys must of saw me getting waves and joined me. The minute they paddled out the low tide really started hurting it. Still some fun little zippers but small weak swell starting to section. Fun while it lasted and once the fog burned off it was beautiful.
Black's 03/09/03
6:00 am - 8:00 am
2 - 3' some 4' Nice little south west pulse keeping things alive. Low tide in the morning so decided to hit up Black's. Looked closed out when I first got down but realized that no one was surfing fast enough. Super fast and hollow left corners at North Peak. Tide moved out a bit more and it became a bit more peaky but still really fast. Some waves opening up for some carves and some makeable tubes, that is, if you were going frontside. Caught a bunch of fun ones until the crowd got really thick, probably around 7:00. Still plenty to go around just people getting into herd mode when seeing guys getting good waves in one area. Current kind of pulling guys south so I made sure I would stick to the same spot and then the crowd would move on. Pretty fun.
Newbreak 03/06/03
6:00 am - 7:30 am
1 - 2' some 3'+ Pretty frigin small this morning. Just some background west pulses. Nobody around at the Cliffs so headed on down to Nubes. Probably about 1 and half hours after peak low and the tide still low enough for some zippy and hollow little waves for about 45 minutes. Even got a nice little dipper. Tide moved in and pretty much killed my fun. Still great to have a solo session.

6:00 am - 7:30 am
2 - 3' some 4' Thought I'd give Swami's the old college try today seeing the interval had dropped so it hopefully would be a bit more consistent. Not really. Extremely long lulls killing the joy. There was some fun and suprisingly powerful little waves coming through for some mean whacks. Also the odd bowl section but only found it once on my second wave. Fun but it would have been great if it was consistent.
P.B. Point 03/03/03
7:00 am - 9:00 am
3 - 4' some 5' Boogied up to Swami'a at first light but was disappointed to see small inconsistent conditions with about 20 guys out. Knew what I had to do. Head back south and hit up the La Jolla reef areas on the high. Glad I did. About two times bigger and consistent. Surfed good Point with 3 other guys for about an hour. People slowly started cluing in there was waves and headed out to join in, but the crowd was never a factor. Swell really north so mostly the outside section working well before the tide got too high. Once the tide got full the deep slot on the inside started working beautifully for some really lined up waves. Pretty fun.

6:30 am - 9:00 am
2 - 3' + Well after a week of blown out junk it has finally cleaned up. Unfortunately the ground swell that was running underneath the wind slop is pretty much history although there was an inconsistent little southern hemi running which was dishing up the only action. Some flat faced waves with a few standing up here an there but the 6' high tide not helping. Waves started moving a bit more on the corner with the higher tide and some of these had some face to whack. Pretty mediocre but good to be back in the water.
