| Swami's | 03/31/04 5:30 am - 8:00 am |
2 - 3' some + What seems to be mid period west swell and some wind swell mixing. Not too much power but a few good ones if you connect. Tide started dropping out and the corner had a few rippable waves before the south wind came up a thrashed it. OK. |
| Newbreak | 03/29/04 5:30 am - 8:00 am |
2 - 3' some + Swell had almost completely cleaned up. Some cross from a small southern hemi and a mid period west. Some pretty rippable waves. As the tide dropped a few barrels springing up. Got a nice 2 second tube on a freak insider. Got a nice double tube on my wave in off a set. Light crowd and hot weather making it an enjoyable experience. |
| Swami's | 03/28/04 5:00 am - 8:00 am |
2 - 3' some + Cleaned up some more but got awfully weak. Crowd out of hand also. Every kook in San Diego with a long board seemed to be out. Had to really hunt for a wave lining up but eventually as the tide moved out some waves were lining up from about mid peak. OK. |
| Swami's | 03/27/04 5:30 am - 8:30 am |
3 - 4' some + Front moved out but left over wind puke has moved in on top of what little ground swell is out there. Had size just really broken up and sloppy. Some good end sections to crack but finding one that would connect was a chore. OK. |
| Swami's | 03/26/04 5:30 am - 8:00 am |
3 - 4' some + Strong wind swell with some underlying ground swell from a weak front moving through. Wind pretty strong out of the north and building making for pretty much thrashed conditions. A few waves really feeling the reef and standing up. Just had to choose the right one. At least the conditions kept the crowd light. OK. |
| Swami's | 03/25/04 5:30 am - 9:00 am |
2 - 4' some + Wind swell and a small north swell mixing together to give some soft waves. A few standing up here and there but overall kind of drop and to mush. As the tide started filling in the inside actually started to get a bit better and lining up. My wave in went all the way to the sand for multiple cracks. Fun but nothing great. |
| Scripp's | 03/24/04 6:00 am - 8:30 am |
1 - 3' some + North wind swell missingmost places but Scripp's picking it up well. Some half way decent sandbars creating some peaky waves but the majority of them closeouts. Still there were some fun left and right corners opening up for a few turns. OK. |
| Swami's | 03/21/04 6:00 am - 8:30 am |
1 - 2' some + Well winter is closing with a whimper once again. Wind swell puke and a tad of southern hemi keeping it slightly surfable. A few rare gems lining up but mostly pretty weak waves. Ok, but definitely nothing to get excited over. Tell that to the crowd. |
| OB Jetty | 03/17/04 6:00 am - 8:30 am |
1 - 3' some + Southern hemi dishing up a string of pulses through the jetty. Tide too fat at first but once it started dropping out a window opened up around 8:00 am where it was pretty shredable. This lasted for about hour and then the tide was just to low for the weak sand bar that is on offer. Pretty fun while it lasted with only a few heads partaking. Good thing I got out team SDSU was heading out as I was changing. |
| Swami's | 03/15/04 6:00 am - 8:30 am |
1 - 3' some + North swell really faded but a pulse of southern hemi keeping it surfable. Super inconsistent but the insiders were worth waiting for. Everybody out sensing that this is going to be it for awhile. Changed to a quarter inch smaller fin and the board is magic now. Amazing what fins can do for a board. Fun. |
| Swami's | 03/14/04 5:30 am - 8:30 am |
2 - 3' some + A peaking north swell wrapping around the Channel Islands creating some clean but inconsistent surf. A few beauties breaking from the outside all the way through. Some pretty fun insiders zipping along the reef. Good for some roundies and some lips. Getting more used to the new board but definitely convinced the fins are to big so am going to swap out to smaller ones. Fun. |
| Black's | 03/12/04 6:30 am - 9:00 am |
1 - 3' some + Left over wind swell and a very small southern hemi producing some decent lefts that were really inconsistent. Crowd was a pain in the ass at dawn but it cleared out around 8 and me and two other guys had south peak to ourselves. This is when I caught most of my decent waves. OK. |
| Swami's | 03/11/04 6:30 am - 9:00 am |
1 - 2' some + A boost in wind swell overnight had Swami's small and weak but surfable seeing that it was really clean. A few meager ones off the corner and the odd set actually standing up but super inconsistent on those. Weak. |
| OB Jetty | 03/10/04 6:30 am - 9:00 am |
1 - 3' Wind swell puke and a low tide making things look pretty ugly. Looked like a few lined up waves pushing through the Jetty. This was just an illusion however as when I got out there it was mushy crap. Every once in awhile a good one would rear up that would actually line up. Even got a miracle bowl. Tide started filling in making matters worse as was a on and off again south wind. Stayed out way too long. Terrible. |

| South Side Crystal Pier | 03/08/04 7:00 am - 9:00 am |
2 - 3' some + Some medium period west swell still lingering around. Paddled out at Reed but was pretty closed out and noticed there were a few people surfing south side which never happens - a novelty wave these days. A fun left wedging straight into the pier good for a couple cracks. The odd right lumping up too. Tide filled in and shut it down but fun while it lasted. First day riding the new 6'2" and felt pretty drivey with the Future Fins but of course not as loose as the last board although they have the exact dimensions. |
| Swami's | 03/06/04 6:00 am - 7:00 am |
1 - 3' some + Swell really dropped like a stone overnight. Super clean though but very inconsistent. Caught some very fun little rippable waves on the way inside but once the tide started to flood it completely shut down. OK. |
| Newbreak | 03/05/04 8:30 am - 11:00 am |
3 - 5' some + Swell really hitting the Cliffs well. Although it was supposed to be a pretty steep north it was coming on the beach super west. Maybe from wrapping around the Channel Islands? Hit it about a half hour after peak high and it was on. Just me an one other guy out for about an hour and then the mob slowly trickled in. Some big fat carvable walls. As the tide dropped got a bit more hollow but then the dreaded south wind had picked up making it a bit sectiony. Still pretty damn fun. |
| Swami's | 03/04/04 8:30 am - 10:00 am |
2 - 3' some + Was waiting for the tide to turn around and the swell to kick in a bi so didn't dawn patrol. Which I had because the wind started howling form the south and completely blew out the surf. Unfortunate because the new swell was showing some inconsistent three footers. Caught a couple fun ones but it became extremely sloppy. Poor. |
| Swami's | 03/03/04 6:00 am - 8:00 am |
1 - 3' some + Wind swell combined with what seemed like a bit of southern hemi. Pretty soft but a few peaks opening up for some lips. Very light crowd and glassy so I had a good time. |
| Swami's | 03/01/04 6:00 am - 8:00 am |
2 - 3' some + North ground swell fully filled in but really inconsistent. Some pretty fun waves off the corner with just a few heads on it. Outside breaking but really not connecting. Some waves swinging wide and these were the best ones. Pretty fun. |
