Location Date/Time Conditions
Missouri St. 05/31/00
5:00 pm - 6:00 pm
1 - 2' Super clean again with a little more windswell influence showing. Inconsistent and crowded because it was a gorgeous evening with it being sunny and warm. Waves were pretty weak overall. Nabbed a good left in that saved the session.
Missouri St. 05/30/00
6:00 am - 7:00 am
1 - 2' Super clean this morning with little waves from the northwest creating some fun rights out front. A little soft but no one out so I had the pick.
Missouri St. 05/29/00
7:00 am - 9:00 am
1 - 2' Ditto conditions of the day before with actually a little more junk. Crowded.
Missouri St. 05/28/00
6:30 am - 9:00 am
1 - 3' Not as good as the day before but still some fun lefts peeling through. Tide was playing a role with the high tide shutting things down a bit. A major disappointment after the day before.
Missouri St. 05/27/00
11:30 pm - 3:00 pm
1 - 3' I don't know what it was, but all the elements aligned perfectly for a good day for surf and sun. Beautiful weather and super clean conditions creating super fun lined up waves up and down the beach splitting both ways. It looked like a small northwest creating the best waves with a tad of south mixed in. Water was warm and overall it was just a great session with tons of waves until the wind and tide killed it around 3:00.
Missouri St. 05/22/00
5:30 pm - 7:00 pm
1 - 3' South swell still holding but smaller and at different intervals. Left corners out front with a few rights busting off the north corner of the Capri. Still packing a little power but because of the extreme south direction the full brunt was not being felt. Tried out my new skeg which is slightly different than the old one. couldn't really tell but then again conditions weren't all that epic. Still had fun though slapping a few lefts.
Malibu 05/21/00
7:30 am - 10:30 am
2 - 6'+ Had to go to LA on Saturday for a wedding and was going to stay the night in Ventura. Swell was looking pretty weak down here in the morning but by 11:00 it was starting to show but unfortunately I had to hit the road. Checked C-street and Fairgrounds before dark and it looked a little inconsistent and about head high on the sets. Get up early and head down to C-street for a swell check. Much bigger and consistent but form was lacking on the low tide. Made a split decision to head to the 'Bu, which is about a 40 minute drive. Pull up along PCH and score a spot. First good sign. Waist to shoulder high waves winding through 1st point looking real carvable and not too many people out yet. Get on it. Haven't surfed here in three years. The wave is so good it is just a shame every kook in the LA area with a longboard thinks they're Moondoggie or something. Major confusion through 1st point with every dickhead taking off on each other. Scoped the corner and the deep inside corner and managed to get some beauties. Then the crowd got thick. Pretty unmanageable but with the tide coming in 3rd point really started coming on so I paddled over there and it was head high with some sets going overhead. Got some nice peaks over there and even got a nice tube. The peak started getting a little closed out so I moved back into 1st point and managed to sneak a swing wide set which was completely ruined by some chick flailing her board and somehow getting caught in the section I was powering around. Unfortunate because this might have been all the way to the pier. This really fired me up to just charge everything so I caught a bunch through the inside that were peeling perfectly and took one all the way in and snapped my back fin off on a rock in the shore pound. Despite the crowd the 'Bu served it up well.
Missouri St. 05/18/00
5:30 pm - 7:00 pm
1 - 3'+ Weak windswelly stuff that looks better than it is because it lacks any power whatsoever. Managed to squeak a few decent waves but besides the conditions being sunny and glassy the waves were mush city.
Missouri St. 05/15/00
6:00 am - 8:00 am
1 - 3'+ Swell diminishing and no one out front after checking Bird and hoping. Sets still coming through so go out. More windswell influence but some good lefts to hit until the tide comes up to high and pretty much mushes it out.
Missouri St. 05/13/00
6:00 am - 8:00 am
2 - 4'+ Block party day so got up real early anticipating Bird to be good and get back early enough to get a parking spot. Not so. Mushy and crowded with too much windswell influence. South swell real setty but those sets were big. Come back at about 6:00 am and there is one parking spot left. Crazy! any how out front is looking messy but some thick lefts were rolling through on the south swell sets. Some real good power behind these bad boy making for a good carving session when the waves were holding up. Some big sneaker sets coming through every fifteen minutes or so keeping the kooks on their toes. Fun again.
Missouri St. 05/12/00
6:00 am - 8:00 am
2 - 4' Windswell not as big today but a new south has been filling in overnight. Good comby conditions again serving up good lefts up and down the beach. Real fun once again.
La Jolla Shores 05/11/00
6:30 am - 8:00 am
1 - 4' Windswell really filling in today. About 2 -4' out front but trash. Decide somewhere has to be good so hop in the car and head for Scripps. Scripps is maxing out at about 6'+ and messy although it is blowing offshore. Head south for the Shores were things are a bit more sheltered. Haven't surfed here in ages. Waves breaking in front of the Lifeguard tower with some size which doesn't happen all that much. Super clean conditions with light feathery offshores with super clean and warm water. Good lined up tubing waves. Almost too lined up but holding up well. Super fun with lefts predominating but also some real fast lined up rights. Lots of people out but I went as far south as I could where it was smaller but better. Only a couple guys joined me while the main peaks in front of the bathrooms were packed. Good session.
Missouri St. 05/09/00
5:30 pm - 7:00 pm
2 - 4' Comby swell making things happen out front again. Real fun lefts all over the place this evening. Still a bit junky but very hittable.
Missouri St. 05/08/00
6:30 am - 7:30 am   and 5:30 pm - 7:00 pm
1 - 3'+ Double session this day. Good and clean but small in the morning with some nice hittable right s pushing through. In the afternoon the windswell came on couple with the southern hemi making for some fun peaks with lefts being the predominate.
Newbreak 05/07/00
7:30 am - 9:30 am
2 - 4' Looks like the southern hemi peaked overnight because conditions didn't look any bigger today. Northwest windswell still junking things up but looked to be smaller. Newbs was trying to straighten things out. Real low tide so I was hoping for hollow conditions but the swell was too unorganized for it. Still good sectiony walls, especially through the inside with some doubling up here and there. I always forget that an average day here is better than a good day at most spots. Managed to catch a head high sneaker set outside that spun all the way through. Conditions were really starting to get mushy when the tide started rolling in around 9:00 so stuck around for a few more and went in.
Reed St. 05/06/00
11:30 am - 1:30 pm
2 - 4' Pretty meager out front so went to breakfast and on the way down saw that the south side of the pier was shoulder to head high. Tide wasn't filling in till noon so no hurry because the wind had been up early anyhow. Looked like a combination of southwest groundswell and northwest windswell with the windswell predominating. Although a little messy, fun peaky conditions favoring the lefts. Beautiful day where you could surf all day but after 2 hours I was feeling too much sun on the neck.
Missouri St. 05/04/00
4:30 pm - 6:00 pm
1 - 2' Small but very clean on the tide turnaround from a 1 foot on its way up to a 6 foot. Light wind and cloudy but the water has warmed up phenomenally. Fun little wedgy peaks from a very small southern hemi and small north west windswell. What was lacking in punch was making up for in form with a nice little left busting on the Pacific Terrace and then a right coming off my rejuvenated friend the old sandbar off the north end of the Capri(I'm convinced there is some sort of patch reef out there).
