Location Date/Time Conditions
Scripps 05/30/06
5:00 am - 7:00 am
2 - 3' The last gasp of the wind swell run we have been having for the past week or so. Glassy low tide peaks but weak. Lefts a bit more lip but the rights lining up a tad better. Kind of fun but nothing great.
La Jolla Shores 05/29/06
6:00 am - 8:00 am
2 - 4' Silky smooth conditions. Wind swell still running but much more north. La Jolla beach breaks picking it up well. Negative tide but low tide sand bars up and down the beach with it being particularly peaky between the life guard tower and the bathroom at Shores. Just a few heads out so I hit it up. Super fun and fast little peaks going left and right. Some little tubes to be had but hard to make. Nice little end sections to hit and a few lips to be had as well. Crowd wasn't bad at all until about 7:30 and then the Memorial Day hordes arrived making it almost unbearable in the water by 8 o'clock with every kook on a longboard straight from Santee. Pretty fun until the invasion.
Swami's 05/28/06
6:30 am - 9:30 am
2 - 3' some + Eddy had finally backed off and clear skies showing. Light offshore to no wind. Unfortunately the wind swell had shifted more north. Low tide had it drained and barely cracking across the reef. Looked, waited, and watched for about 45 minutes. Drove to Pipes which looked abysmal. Knew not to count Swami's out and that once the tide turned around and started filling over the reef some fun waves would happen. Tide was just too low when I first paddled out but a few combo wedges were hitting the far southern corner of the reef for a few steep little sections. Tide finally started moving and covered the inside enough to get some fun little wedges fired up for some turn time. Crowd thinned and had it with just a few heads on the inside. Fun.
Swami's 05/27/06
6:00 am - 9:00 am
3 - 5' some + Catalina eddy persisting and probably the strongest today with howling south winds. Low tide and sloppy with only a few heads taking a stab. Was hoping for the wind to lay down or the tide to come in fast, basically anything to smooth it out because there was still plenty of swell. Me and Marcos decided to paddle out and hope something would happen. Took about an hour for conditions to come together. Once they did there were some fun walls to be had amidst a bunch of slop. Tide started really moving in and although the wind never really laid down from the south, lines were holding across the reef for some nice walls but by then a pretty large crew had figured out there were waves. Fun.
Swami's 05/26/06
5:00 am - 7:00 am
3 - 6' some + Wind swell still hanging in there and seeming a little bigger and consistent. Variable winds from a Catalina eddy a problem though with the wind swinging south to south east and putting a crumble and ruffle on the waves. Still pretty surfable with some solid size smoothing out the chop after the sets would plow through. Wind finally laid down and things came together quite nicely with plenty of fun waves off the peak and through the inside but definitely favoring the peak. Fun.

5:00 am - 7:00 am
3 - 6' some + Wind swell that all the wave prediction sites had been hyping finally here. A little more juice than I expected with some waves going overhead on the early low tide. Winds offshore but gradually swinging south. Best early with the most energy showing on the peak with some solid drops and a few walls linking to the inside. Inside got a bit better as the tide filled in but also the waves softened up quite a bit on the rising tide. Crowd very low for so much swell but by the time I came in the word was out. Fun.
Reed St. 05/23/06
5:00 am - 8:00 am
2 - 4' Left over southern hemi with a smidgen of a new southern hemi plus some west wind swell. Peaks up and down the beach definitely favoring the lefts on the mid tide pushing high. A wee bit soft but the good ones were awfully rippable. Uncrowded and silky smooth. As the tide filled in it got a bit inconsistent but then some rights were starting to wedge and barrel a bit. Tough to get in but managed to crack a few pretty good. Pretty fun.
OB Jetty 05/21/06
5:00 am - 8:00 am
3 - 4' some 5' South swell hanging in there. Jetty pulling it in well. a little soft on the higher tide but it seems to be liking a little more water giving it a bit more line. Pretty thwackable with some nice open faces especially on the sets that were wedging. Crowd pretty light and mellow and plenty to go around. Seemed to be getting better with the tide dropping even though a south east wind was starting to ruffle it up. Pretty fun.
Uppers 05/20/06
6:00 am - 9:00 am
4 - 5' some 8' South swell pulling in at about 180 degrees. Uppers just sucking the swell up. Best Trestles personally I've seen in years. Combined with a dropping tide and light offshores it was really lined up but oh so smackable. Even some tubes to be had. Not every wave makable but a lot of good ones sliding by the outside and lining up all the way through and some sets swinging wide and taking you into the bay almost to Lowers. Some macking sets pushing through with a majority of them closing out but some with enough corner to to hold up. Those were the ones you wanted. Some sick waves. I cant count how many good rippable waves I got. Even though crowded not out of control and was consistent enough that after three hours I was surfed out. Excellent.
OB Jetty 05/19/06
5:30 am - 7:30 am
3 - 5'+ New swell starting to hit out of the south. Pretty steep angle on it but the jetty pulling it in. A tad of west wind swell in the water too. Jetty was fast but makable with some decent waves bouncing and opening up for a few hits and some long lines while the tide was still up a bit. Inconsistent but pretty fun.
Swami's 05/18/06
5:30 am - 7:30 am
2 - 4'+ Lots of talk about a late season northwest wind swell and ground swell combo. Looking like mostly talk. A bit of size but most of the good waves were being generated off the inconsistent south sets combining with the wind swell for a few rippable waves through the inside. Early wind funk smoothed out to a glass and a few double ups comboing nicely through mid peak. Tide was dropping fast and sucking the life out of it but still dishing up a few. Fun.
OB Jetty 05/17/06
5:30 am - 7:30 am
2 - 4'+ New pulse of south swell with a bit of wind swell. Some wind on it and a negative tide creating a pretty funky rip but enough swell for the bigger sets to set up off the jetty. Had to be choosy but the good ones would pay off with some long walls. Fun.
OB Jetty 05/16/06
5:30 am - 7:30 am
2 - 3'+ Some south pulse still. Not very consistent but still some waves gurgling over the bar with the low tide. Mostly waves of the jetty good for a couple of turns until hitting a large patch of bar thats sitting about a coupe of inches below water on these negative lows. OK.
OB Jetty 05/15/06
5:30 am - 7:30 am
2 - 5'+ South swell still hanging in there. Tide a negative at dawn and creating some funky conditions. Waves bouncing but most not feeling the bar well at first and dumping on the inside. Once there was enough water along the jetty the bounce started to produce some wedgy peaks but still pretty lumpy from some kind of wind swell and wind funk. The crowd was light though, and there were some good waves to be had. Fun.
Newbreak 05/14/06
6:00 am - 9:30 am
2 - 5'+ South swell had really filled in overnight. Some pretty solid north west wind swell crossing it up too. Looked at the jetty at dawn and it was macking. Looked too fast so figured there was enough swell in the water to head down to the Cliffs. Pull up and only one guy out at Nubes and it looks like its good. Run down and see that the sets are reeling and freak. A bit inconsistent at first but the tidal push turned it on for a window of about one and half hours of tubes an clean rippable walls. Tide finally got on it and slowed it down and people finally had figured out there were waves, but by then I had had my fill. Good.
OB Jetty 05/13/06
6:00 am - 8:30 am
1 - 3' Very inconsistent south swell with some west swell in the water. Looking kind of fun around Avalanche but quite a few people out so saw a clean lines peel through the jetty. Paddle out and the two long boards that were out went in. Super clean and rippable little lines. Inconsistent but I was the only one out so had a blast.
OB Jetty 05/12/06
5:30 am - 7:00 am
1 - 3' Just small south pulses in the water. Clean with no wind and the low tide coming in creating a nice bounce off the jetty. Some pretty fun little waves at dawn but the minute the tide started moving in it pretty much shut down. OK.
OB Jetty 05/11/06
5:30 am - 7:00 am
2 - 3' Left over south swell and wind swell running. Pretty stiff onshore wind blowing at dawn but saw some waves rolling through and thaught the low tide and would help keep it clean. A bit sectiony but not too bad. Lining up pretty good with some open face to work with here and there. Wind laid down and it glassed off a bit too. After about an hour someone finally joined me but the tide was filling in kind of softening it up but it was still fun.
Thomas St. 05/10/06
6:00 am - 7:00 am
3 - 4'some + More west wind swell in the water with lingering southern hemi. A welcome glassy morning after a few days of shifty south to south east winds. A lower tide at dawn had it capping on the outside bars for some pretty hollow waves. Tide started moving in and walling it up a bit but the cross ups had some good peaks. Some pretty large sneaker sets drilling through but mostly closing out. Light to non existent crowd is always nice. OK.
Diamond St. 05/09/06
6:00 am - 7:00 am
2 - 3'some + Not as big as the day before but still some energy out there from a decreased wind swell and a steady pulse of low energy southern hemi. A bit morning sick but the lefts were holding a little form and some rights were popping some peaks. Tide cam in a nd softened it up quite a bit but it was OK.
Diamond St. 05/08/06
6:00 am - 7:30 am
2 - 4' some + Left over south swell with some north west wind swell. Peaky and a bit mushy but patience was rewarded with some steeper faced waves good for a couple of cracks and end sections. Surfed with an old friend who is in town and we pretty much had it to ourselves the whole time. Fun.
Swami's 05/06/06
6:00 am - 10:30 am
2 - 4'some 6+ South swell nicely filled in and some size showing but high tide not optimal for this swell direction. Swell coming in sideways and not focusing properly on the reef. Took about an hour of the tide dropping for it to focus and start lining up across the inside. It was on after that, though a bit inconsistent, with some fast lines and even a few barrels across the kiddie bowl. Got even better as the tide pulled out further and some insiders throwing some sick pipes. Managed to stuff myself into a beauty. Got my fill after four and a half hours because I was off to Palm Springs that afternoon. Fun stuff.
Bird Rock 05/05/06
5:30 am - 7:30 am
2 - 4'some 5+ New well publicized south swell on the rise. Shit conditions in the morning with a high tide receding and a stiff onshore. Some sets rolling through but was having problems connecting with the right one that would hit the reef cleanly. Finally managed to pull down a few that actually lined up through Ziggy's that were good for a whack and some roundies but it was definitely a crap shoot with lots of waves crumbling or sectioning out. The bigger sets were good but a long wait between them with the swell just starting to fill. OK.
Black's 05/04/06
5:30 am - 7:30 am
1 - 3' + Was hoping for a repeat performance but both swells on the fade. Was struggling to put together anything good. Finally ended up at north peak were a little clean right was busting off a few corners but over all pretty lack luster and weak.
Black's 05/03/06
5:30 am - 7:30 am
3 - 5' + South swell pretty much filled in and some north west wind and ground swell running too. Finally after about 5 days of onshore winds a sheet glassy morning. Was out at dawn and hit up middle peak with a few heads but quickly found a nice right peak more towards south peak. Pretty rippable rights that were wedging beautifully. A few lefts but the rights were the call again today. Quickly became packed but spread out enough to get the rights popping up. Really fun.
OB Jetty 05/02/06
5:30 am - 7:30 am
2 - 3' + New south swell filling in. Some chest high plus waves coming in inconsistently but lining up super fast. A bit of wind ruffling the surface too. Had to take a high line and pump like mad to make the sections with barely a few opening up for any turns. Managed to pull down a few good ones but disappointing for the amount of swell.
OB Jetty 05/01/06
5:30 am - 7:00 am
1 - 3' Inconsistent south pulses. A bit of north west wind on it early but not effecting it too much with the tide sucking out to a negative so super shallow on the outside. A few fun little clean zippers over the bar for about one turn. Just me and a couple heads so fun.
