Location Date/Time Conditions
Missouri St. 11/30/05
6:00 am - 7:30 am
1 - 2'+ Pure junk wind swell in the water. South of the pier had a bit more size but just dumping. North was super sectiony and a few inside sections reforming and quite whackable. Tide peaked around 7:30 at 6.3 and it became almost unsurfable. At least the crowd was nonexistent. OK.
Scripp's 11/28/05
6:00 am - 7:30 am
1 - 3'+ Wind swell really ratcheted down over night but much more clean than its been. Super high tide peaking with a stiff offshore so a bit soft but also a few nice double ups on the inside. Those were the gems to be found as I basically surfed the left toff the tower by myself. OK.
Swami's 11/27/05
6:00 am - 10:00 am
2 - 3' some 4'+ Cleaned up a bit overnight but the size really didn't increase that much. Soft on the high tide and breaking all the way through when they did come through. A gizillion people out and just all round not very good. Caught a few hanging off the peak but the inside just not working. Tide finally started draining and the low tide corner started working with its weird bowly take off into its unpredictable reef dance with some being lined up and other fading to nothing. OK.
Swami's 11/26/05
6:30 am - 9:00 am
2 - 3' some 4' Wind swell filled in overnight with unfavorable winds. Swell not that big and really weak with 4-6 second intervals. A few funs ones on peak high tide through the inside but as the tide started pulling out it became incredibly weak and sectiony. OK to downright terrible.
The Cliffs 11/25/05
8:00 am - 12:30 pm
1 - 3' some 4' Supposedly a north west swell building. Medium tide and not too many people around and for good reason - no waves. Well there were a few blips rolling through Abbs and Chasms so headed down to Chasms. Barely surfable so paddled over to Nubes. Barely surfable but it looked like with the tide dropping a bit more a bit more swell was on offer. Headed over to Inbetweens and caught a couple of good ones. Looked like Abbs was even bigger so paddle over there. Caught a few fun but short lefts. Was getting crowded so then paddle dover to Sub caught a few lefts and wasn't thrilled with the sectioning of it so headed back to Abs for a few and saw Nubes cracking a few. Paddled on back to Nubes and caught a few good waist high crackers but tide had turned and it shut down. Was out a long time. OK, but the wave tally for such a long session pretty meager.
OB Jetty 11/22/05
6:00 am - 7:00 am
2 - 3' some 4' + Another burst of southern hemi. Pretty consistent and super clean. Just me and two kids out at dawn and I probably caught more good waves in 15 minutes than I have in the past month. Waves wedging off the jetty and lining up all the way through on the bigger ones. Super smackable and really fun. Tube really not opening up but the ripability making up for it. Got my fill as the crowd was becoming thick so went in on a good note. Real fun.
Hanneman's 11/21/05
6:00 am - 7:30 am
2 - 3' some 4' + South had faded but a bit of north swell burst had it in inconsistent waist to chest high waves with the odd bomber set. Just a few guys out at dawn but that changed quickly as a bunch of fools paddled out. So many long boards have infested this spot it sickens me. Anyhow, some slappable lefts, a little sectiony at times, but throwing the odd crackable face. OK.
OB Jetty 11/20/05
6:30 am - 9:00 am
2 - 3' some 4' + South hanging on with a bit of north swell. Very inconsistent again but super clean. Jetty had some small zippers and the crowd wasn't too bad. Had looked at Hannemans earlier but about 20 long boarding fools on it. Combination of swell had a few nice bouncers directly off the jetty lining up fast but opening for a few whacks. Inside was actually a bit better as the tide filled in. Sets were swinging wide and barreling over the bar quickly. Got a few nice shacks and some longer race tracks. Fun.
Swami's/Campgrounds 11/19/05
5:30 am - 11:00 am
2 - 4' + South swell had filled in yesterday afternoon but was already losing steam. A new north swell filling in. Paddled out at Swami's at dawn and it was looking good but not very large. Very inconsistent but squeaky clean lines. Managed to pull down a few but the crowd was unbearable with drop ins everywhere. Couldn't take for too long. My buddy Marc had paddled out too so we boogied on out of there and check the campground which seemed to be handling the high tide better and had more swell. Fun reef peak off the second set of stairs north of the tower. Forget the name of this spot but not too crowded and pretty rippable. Surfed it for about 3 and half hours enjoying myself immensely in the clean conditions and hot weather. Fun.
Thomas St. 11/18/05
6:00 am - 7:30 am
1 - 3' + New south swell very inconsistent but filling in with some razor sharp lines from about 220 degrees. Some left corners at first but as the tide filled in became very closed out with just the odd right popping a shoulder here an there. Poor.
Hermo 11/14/05
6:30 am - 7:30 am
2 - 4' North swell left overs. Fog thick putting a little texture on it but the hide tide smoothing things out a bit. Some fun right sets at Hermo but as the tide started pushing to a 6.5' it was shutting down. Crowd got a bit heavy for wat was on offer so headed in on a short one through the point. OK.
Swami's 11/13/05
6:30 am - 10:00 am
2 - 4' + Ground swell peaking. Still really too north for southern Cal but the fringe energy putting up some good sets. Super fat tide at 7 again slowing it down but as it turned around the inside sprung to life. Crowd a bit out of hand but there were some fun rippable waves for those with the low down so in all the crowd became a non factor. Fun.
Rincon 11/12/05
6:30 am - 11:00 am
2 - 4' + New ground swell finally showing. Pretty steep out of the north but Rincon picking it up. Sandbar the biggest I think I have ever seen it. Completely sandy all the way up to the top of the cove. Beautiful conditions as the fog burned off with light offshores to sheet glass. A fat high tide at 7 had the crowd at a minumum but there was some surfable sets in the cove - you just had to be patient. Tide finally started to turn around and a few more people started paddling out. Cove kind of went into a lull so headed up to te rivermouth which was looking fun. Me and two other guys sharing some shoulder to almost head high wedges as the swell really started to fill in. Headed back over to the Cove where there were some beautiful sets swinging wide. Extremely rippable and very very fast waves. There was the unfortunate problem of some very inexperienced longboarders trying to ruin the session by generally getting in teh way and shoulder hopping. Picked off a wide set and was racing the section when some flailing girl went over the falls on her log and blind sided me as I went by. Was a little upset and let the lineup know it which kind of left me undisturbed for the rest of the session as I picked off the choice swingers through teh cove. Pretty tasty.
Scripp's 11/10/05
6:00 am - 7:30 am
1 - 2' + Some small wind swell popped up over night. Looked good at dawn with small clean peaks up and down the beach. Some fun little lefts at first but the tide came in quickly and completely shut it down. Poor.
Newbreak 11/06/05
1:30 pm - 4:30 pm
2 - 3' + Lingering wind swell and very inconsistent north swell. Tide was coming off a huge 6.5 at 11:00 am and there was still a lot of water over the reef. Just me and a couple of guys at first but the sets were the only waves really feeling the reef and not enough to go around. As the tide dropped the inside had a few more lines forming but it seemed the swell was diminishing as the tide really started moving out. Managed to pull down a few good waves that had some face to work with but a majority of the waves pretty mushy. Crowd got super thick as the tide dropped and couldn't take it so paddle over to Inbetweens and caught some really nice rights that were pretty whackable. Crowd was overflowing there so headed down to Abs and caught a few decent lefts to go in. Fun but nothing great. The fish craze is out of hand. Lots of guys that can't or shouldn't be surfing them in the water.
D St. 11/05/05
6:00 am - 8:30 am
2 - 3' + Wind swell with a more north ground swell and a touch of south. Some rippable little waves at dawn wedging right and left up and down the beach. Tide filling in making it more lined but still some corners to be had. First time I've surfed something decent on the new board and it was working well. Pretty fun.
Missouri St. 11/04/05
6:00 am - 7:30 am
1 - 3' Wind swell with a little bit of north ground swell and a touch of south. Peaks up and down the beach at dawn but tide filling in rapidly shutting it down after about twenty minutes. A few lefts here and there but nothing great by any means.
