| Swami's | 11/29/06 6:00 am - 9:00 am |
2 - 3' some+ Really cleaned up overnight. However, short period wind swell in the water that was a bit gutless across the reef. Too bad because the offshores kicked in and conditions were optimal. Patience was key waiting for the right wave that would hit the reef with a little bit of line and power. A couple of fun ones mixed in with the mush. Probably a better beach break day. |
| Swami's | 11/26/06 6:00 am - 7:30 am |
1 - 2' some 3' Finally some clean swell but pretty small. Tide pushing a bit so there were a few nice double ups on the inside ledge that could be hit and carved. Seemed great compared to the crap I've been surfing lately. |
| OB Jetty | 11/25/06 6:00 am - 9:00 am |
1 - 3' More hacked wind swell. Looked like there were a few off the jetty early so headed out. A couple lining up off the bounce but once the tide started filling in it was a chore finding that line that would hold up. Swell became more warbly and disorganized as the morning progressed and add that to the wind switching south it became pretty poor. |
| Rincon | 11/24/06 12:00 pm - 2:00 pm |
1 - 3' Left over wind swell at the Rivermouth. Conditions were clean but the swell was not. Small, warbly and weak. A few decent ones lining up but had to be patient. Poor. |
| Pleasure Point | 11/22/06 12:00 pm - 2:00 pm |
2 - 5' Some very steep north swell and wind swell in the water. Was staying in Monterey and decided to head up a half an hour to Santa Cruz to get some waves. Nice day with little to no wind and tide was coming off a fat high at 10:30 so conditions were coming together. Not many people out with the tide still a bit high so sat on 1st peak and caught a couple of sweeping peaks that had a bit of face to work with while other were pretty mushy. Seems to me that the swell was a bit too north for it to be really good but it was still fun especially the waves that would hit the inside reef and line up for a good speed run with some face to crack. Problem was by the time the tide was pulling out just enough a huge crowd had descended on the point making for quite a bit of jockeying. No one being a dick but just a super aggressive crowd. OK. |
| Rincon | 11/21/06 6:00 am - 8:00 am |
1 - 3' New groundswell in the water but very small. A few waist to chest high sets peeling across the Indicator and Rivermouth inconsistently. Two guys out so I suited up quick and ran to the top of the point. By the time I got there the weather had shifted dramatically from offshore to a huge fog bank bringing in south east winds hacking the lineup to shit. Still managed to get a few decent lines good for a few cracks and nobody was out so it was OK. |
| Fairgrounds | 11/20/06 8:00 am - 10:00 am |
1 - 3' Small amount of wind swell in the water. Beautiful offshore conditions but barely breaking at the top of the point with a very full 6 foot high at 8:00 am. Waited for high to peak to go out. A few little waves good for about one turn or so but then the wind shifted to the north and started hacking it pretty quick. Poor. |
| Chalcedony St. | 11/18/06 6:00 am - 9:00 am |
2 - 3' some + A bit more wind swell in the water that started coming up yesterday but you could tell it was already on the fade. Some good lefts popping up and doubling up on the inside but quite inconsistent. Not a problem at dawn because the crowd was light but buy 7:00 the place had become a zoo. Patience was key and would be rewarded with a good zippy left. OK. |
| Black's | 11/17/06 9:00 am - 11:00 am |
1 - 3' some + Left over wind swell and a tad of southern hemi. Tide was extremely high at dawn so waited for it to pull out a bit before heading down. Perfect timing with the tide just starting to lower enough for the peaks to start to pop but not too low to dump. Really fun little rippable lefts from south peak to middle peak and not too much of a crowd at first. More guys filtering down as the tide was dropping but by then the wind was starting to come onshore. Fun. |
| Scripp's | 11/15/06 6:30 am - 8:30 am |
2 - 3' some + A lot cleaner this morning with dense fog but low period wind swell still pretty weak. Tide coming off the high and north side needed less water to stand up a bit more. Tide drawing out created some really funky rips. Took about an hour for the rips to settle and the sun to come out. It came together then with some nice peaks going mostly right into the pier. Kind of fun. |
| Scripp's | 11/14/06 6:00 am - 9:00 am |
2 - 3' some + Some really sloppy wind swell accompanied by light rain and howling side to offshores. Looked like it had promise early on with it looking clean. Deceiving because the swell was very weak and low period. Lots of burgery waves. Tide started drawing out and the waves holding up a bit better but the weather had put an insidious south chop filtering in around Point La Jolla and mucking up the surf even more. A few lips here and there but it was a struggle pulling down anything worthwhile. |
| Scripp's | 11/13/06 6:00 am - 7:30 am |
1 - 2' some + Major drop in swell overnight. Buoys still showing swell but obviously fading fast. A few fun little left wedges on north side but as the tide was pulling out it was getting smaller and weaker by the minute. Paddled over to the other side of the pier and caught a few lefts between the stairs and pier but pretty uninspiring. |
| Swami's | 11/12/06 6:00 am - 8:30 am |
2 - 3' some + Another boost in steep northwest wind swell. Pretty ragged and unorganized. Looking sloppy at dawn but not too crowded and there seemed to be a few to pick off inside of the peak. Pretty slopey and soft but a few were backing off the outside and hitting that mid peak area and lining up. Managed to pull down a few of those that were fun and rippable. OK. |
| North side Scripp's | 11/11/06 7:00 am - 9:30 am |
1 - 3' some + Was looking fun with consistent peaks when I pulled up at the overlook. Tide was rising and the wind swell was fading further. Still got a few fun small rights into the pier and then further down the beach some fun little lefts. Crowd became out of hand immediately after I paddled out. Can't get away from the crowd anywhere these days. |
| Swami's | 11/10/06 5:30 am - 7:30 am |
2 - 3' some + Much cleaner and more focused than the day before with light offshores. Of course the swell had dropped considerably and was dropping further and at a pretty good clip. Got some good ones early from outside connecting through and hooking. After about forty five minute the tide moved a fraction in and shut it down. OK. |
| OB Jetty/Swami's | 11/09/06 6:00 am - 9:30 am and 12:00 pm - 2:00 pm |
2 - 4' some + Wind swell that was supposed to fill in yesterday finally arrived over night. Medium sized and pretty chunky. Thought the high tide would smooth it out but too much wind on it and the south easterlies not helping a wit. Bigger sets good for a few cracks but really sectiony. Stayed out until the wind fully clocked south and then to southwest and looking ugly. Was not satisfied with the go out earlier so head to Swami's where I got the report it was decent in the morning. Big and fat. Round houses and not much lip and a ton of kooks on it. Managed to pull down a few lined up ones but not the best with a light southwest wind on it and the wind swell just kid of sweeping across the point with no focus. |
| OB Jetty | 11/08/06 6:00 am - 9:30 am |
1 - 3' Weak west swell but inside high tide sand bar dishing up these perfect little peelers. A few too many guys out at dawn but they split and had inconsistent waist high waves basically to myself for quite awhile. Literally waited a half an hour to get one in but worth the wait. OK. |
| Blacks | 11/07/06 11:00 am - 1:00 pm |
1 - 2' HIgh pressure really built in the day before and a full Santa Ana conditions were at hand and, of course, next to no surf. Was hoping there was a bit of something to ride at Black's seeing it was about 93º at my house and zero wind. Very small but a few rights at north peak for the odd lip. Weak overall though. |
| OB Jetty | 11/06/06 6:00 am - 8:30 am |
1 - 3' some + Wind swell out the window and some small southern hemisphere swell peaking. Inconsistent but very clean. Inside high tide sand bar looking to be in really good form. Small wedge peaks peeling and then backing off to reform way inside for another run. A bit soft but oh so fun to hit and carve. Some people complaining it was a bit weak but how can you not like waves that you hit the lip on five or six times? |
| Hornblend St | 11/05/06 6:00 am - 9:00 am |
2 - 4' some + Wind swell still hanging in there with a bit of southern hemi crossing it up. Super clean conditions this morning without a puff of wind. Once again a super high tide seemed to be slowing things down a bit more towards the Mission side of the beach but towards the south side of Crystal pier wedge peaks were splitting both ways. An amazing rarity to catch this place breaking good at all. I used to live about 4 blocks up Hornblend and would check the bottom of the street all the time on the morning or afternoon surf check and there were just a handful of times this place would be good. When its on though, it can be a nice tapered right off the pier. Rights lining up just south of the pier and then a bit more south some rippable lefts. Tide started drawing out and gave the waves that needed extra bowliness. Pretty good. |
| Chelcedony St. | 11/04/06 6:00 am - 9:00 am |
2 - 3' some + Continuing wind swell and more astronomical high tides. Not much south but the wind swell low enough period to be peaky. Some fun rights and lefts reforming on the inside. Winds a bit shifty but mainly staying side to offshore. Started to slow down a bit after the tide peaked but pretty fun overall. |
| Ponto | 11/03/06 6:00 am - 8:00 am |
2 - 3' some + Northwest wind swell peaked yesterday afternoon and already fading fast. A major six foot plus high tide not helping either. Thought Swami's would have some waves but near flat. A bit of southern hemi in the water so drove up to Ponto. A few reform peaks in the shore break but once the tide got higher it completely shut down. |
| Chelcedony St. | 11/01/06 6:00 am - 9:00 am |
2 - 3' some + Small southern hemi mixed with a tad of wind swell that seemed to be building as the morning progressed. Pretty small but a few rippable corners to be had mostly on the lefts. As the tide started drawing out some northwest wind swell started to filter in and made a few fun rights pop off the end of the Capri that were nothing great but good for a few smacks. As the tide drew out some more it really started getting dumpy. Fun while it lasted. |
