Location Date/Time Conditions
Parking Lot 10/31/03
7:00 am - 8:30 am
1 - 3' Northwest wind swell running and that's about it. First Halloween in awhile we haven't had surf. Checked the Cliffs, the Jetty, and ended up at the Lot which had the only real surfable wave around. Fun little peaks lining up every once in awhile opening up for a few cracks. OK.

6:00 am - 8:00 am
2 - 4' West southwest still hanging in but very inconsistent and lacking oomph. A light south wind kind of ruffling the surface. Light crowd so surfed the peak at first. It was trying to connect to the inside but not quite doing it. The inside cleared out so surfed it by myself for a little while and caught some pretty wackable waves. Fun but nothing great.

5:30 am - 8:00 am
2 - 4'+ West southwest on the way down but still throwing some good waves our way. Tide a bit more manageable at dawn than yesterday. Air so smoky still that it feels like you've smoked a pack of cigs. Some good waves swinging wide through the corner - you just had to be patient. Caught an overhead smoker that swung wide that was a beauty of a wave. Fun.

5:30 am - 7:30 am
3 - 5'+ West southwest really starting to pulse. Killer conditions except for the choking smoke from some of the biggest fires San Diego has seen in years. Inconsistent but super clean and powerful lines hitting the corner that were extremely rippable. Lots of good waves with a light crowd until the 6.8 foot tide started shutting it down. Good.
PB Point/Hermo 10/26/03
6:30 am - 8:30 am
1 - 3'+ West southwest starting to fill in a bit. Super high tide but the point handling it well. Two guys out and they paddled in as I paddled out. Had the point all to myself. A few fast lines across the very top of the point but I figured out why everyone went in - the tide was shutting it down. Moved on over to Hermo were it was wedge peaking on the very inside inconsistently but enough form for a few lips and roundies. Huge fire out by Scripps Ranch creating dusk like light and raining ash. Eerie.

7:00 am - 8:30 am
1 - 3' Figuring I had nothing to lose with the exact same tide and swell conditions I headed back to the jetty. Surfed some small but rippable peaks all by myself for about and hour on the very inside sandbar. While the swell seemed to be backing off and the tide was peaking two guys paddled out to join me. Managed to get a fun one in so it was OK.
OB Jetty 10/24/03
7:30 am - 10:00 am
1 - 3' West wind swell running with a really high tide. Not too many places holding well at all. Avalanche looked OK with some workable lefts but the minute Morgan and myself paddled out it turned to crap. Looked like the very inside of the jetty was breaking with no one out so we paddle over there. Some soft but workable 2 foot peelers coming through. OK.

7:00 am - 10:00 am
2 - 3' some + A good dose of wind swell running today. High tide kind of slowing things down but also pushing the swell in. Some soft waves good for roundies. Tide started dropping out lining it up a bit more but also taking some of the zap out of it. Beautiful day again and the red tide seems on the decline. OK.
Swami's 10/21/03
7:00 am - 9:00 am
1 - 3' Swell evaporated overnight leaving a mixture of small leftover northwest puke and a little bit of southern hemi. A few on the corner were good but overall pretty soft. Mediocre.
Swami's 10/20/03
7:00 am - 10:00 am
3 - 5' Not as solid as yesterday but still pretty good with excellent conditions again. Crowd a bit unmanageable at first with everybody and there mother out. Still managed to finagle quite a few waves off the main peak and then moved on into the corner. Fun.
Swami's 10/19/03
1:30 pm - 3:30 pm
3 - 5' some + Swell finally filled in. Looks like I slipped between shifts because for the quality coming through it wasn't that crowded. Some sick waves off the peak. Super hot, glassy and peeling. The only downfall was the inconsistency of the swell. Caught some really nice freight trains off mid peak and then hung on the corner for awhile where I caught a nice fat set that swung really wide and set up a nice tube through the kiddy bowl. Very good - would have been excellent if there were more waves.
Swami's 10/18/03
8:30 am - 11:30 am
2 - 3' some + New west northwest swell filling in. Super foggy and hard to tell what was going on. Fog finally lifted and crowd thinned. A few rippables through the corner. Swell was pulsing however and a hoard of long boarders paddled out from the club contest down at Cardiff and were trying there best to ruin everybody's session. fortunately the swell started pulsing around 10 a but more and some nice solid waves were setting up through mid peak that were nice and hittable. It would have been fun without all the long board detritus.
OB Jetty 10/17/03
6:30 am - 8:30 am
2 - 3' some + Southwest keeps on pulsing. Long waits but some pretty juicy waves when they came through that were pretty rippable. A few throaty tubes also. OK.
OB Jetty 10/16/03
9:00 am - 11:00 am
1 - 3' Remnants of a southwest running. Guess I missed it yesterday from what I heard from the boys at the jetty. Anyhow, some high tide swingers lining up fast. Some waves with open face for a few hitties but many closing out. Still pretty fun and a light crowd. Perfect hangover remedy.
PB Point/Hermo 10/14/03
8:00 am - 10:00 am
2 - 3' some 4' Left over northwest swell mixing with a touch of south. Pretty inconsistent and limp through the point with a few sections connecting. Hermo looking a bit better. A few workable rights with a good drop and then fading in the channel or holding up for a few lip cracks. OK.
Swami's 10/13/03
8:00 am - 10:00 am
1 - 3' some + New swell supposed to hit but it's too north and pretty small. Hardly anyone out so hit it up but its small and mushy. Swell finally starts filtering in around 9:00 and some pretty fun insiders pop up on the high tide. Crowd started reaching silly proportions so headed on in. OK.
PB Point 10/12/03
7:00 am - 9:00 am
1 - 3' some + Swell had dropped even further but had cleaned up. Not a whole lot happening. The point had some clean 4 wave sets sliding across it with no one out so I was on it. Had some fun rippable waves all to myself for about an hour. The pack showed up and about 20 long boarders come out and ruined my fun. Oh well, at lest I got it to myself for awhile.
Swami's 10/11/03
6:30 am - 9:00 am
2 - 3' some + Way down from yesterday. Some wind swell mucking it up also and of course the crowd was thick. Still some pretty rippable insiders on the hight tide. OK.
Swami's 10/10/03
6:30 am - 10:00 am
3 - 5' some + Looking pretty solid out of the west when I pulled up into the lot. Not a heck of a lot of people out either. A little slow at first with the comer dishing up some waves but as the tide really started filling in the swell started really pumping. Mid peak started smoking. Endless fat lined up waves for lots of hitties and roundies. Had a hard time going in it was so good.
Swami's 10/09/03
6:30 am - 9:00 am
2 - 3' Remnants of west lingering around but nowhere as good as the day before. Still a few fun ones off the corner and mid peak but really not all that hot to justify the crowd. OK.
PB Point/Swami's 10/08/03
7:30 am - 9:30 am
11:30 am - 1:30 pm
2 - 3' some +/3 - 4' some 5'+ New west swell starting to fill in. A bit inconsistent but some good sets lining up across the point for some good whacks and roundies. Tide filled in too much and eventually shut it down. After getting home and checking the buoys noticed that it was really coming up so hit up Swami's. Really good when I first paddled out. The corner was about shoulder high and super clean and rippable. Lots of good waves and the crowd manageable. Tide started dropping out backing off the waves and the crowd started getting thick. Real good while it lasted.
PB Point 10/05/03
7:30 am - 9:00 am
1 - 2' some 3' Remnants of west mixing with some new northwest pulses. One guy out and he went in when I paddled out. Inconsistent but clean and lined up little waves off the inside corner of the point good for a couple of turns before fizzling in the channel. Tide filled in more and completely shut it down. OK.
Swami's 10/05/03
6:30 am - 9:00 am
1 - 3' some + Swell a bit smaller but a tad more consistent. Still super clean and straight. Waves cornering a bit better on the high than the day before with some nice open face. Fun.
Swami's 10/04/03
6:00 am - 7:30 am
2 - 3' some + First west swell of the season. Small, inconsistent, and high tide but really clean. Very crowded for the size and amount of swell. Some good waves through the inside that were carvable but pretty soft. Some inconsistent sets lining up all the way through. Not bad however with everyone trying to surf the peak leaving me to my own devices inside. Good to see some clean lines. Fun.
