OB Jetty 10/31/06
6:00 am - 9:30 am
2 - 3' some + New small southern hemi in the water. Inconsistent but looking all right with the tide peaking at dawn. Sand bar really hasn't been in all that great of shape for months now and we are seeing the effects. Lots of close outs wide. Some bouncing but the exception and when the tide started moving out it became ripped and warbly. Held out hoping a lower tide would help clean it up which it did around 8:30 or so when it started to bounce again and line up for a few carves. OK.
Scripp's 10/30/06
7:00 am - 9:00 am
2 - 3' some + A ton of short period scrappy wind swell in the water. Most everywhere looking pretty hacked and sloppy. Scripp's a bit cleaner with some glass on it. Pretty fast and dumpy but some corners could be had. OK.
OB Jetty 10/28/06
6:30 am - 9:00 am
2 - 3' some + Small southern hemi running and trace west. Some fun bounce wedges that were a bit slopey off the jetty but too inconsistent for the amount of people out. A contest was being held at Avalanche which had the beach from the stub toward the pier closed so a bunch of overflow hitting the jetty. OK.
South Mission 10/27/06
6:30 am - 9:00 am
2 - 3' some 4+ Another little reinforcing pulse out of the west with a tad of southern hemi. Not too many guys out and some nice waves wedging off the jetty. Some breaking deep and fast while others lining up nicely a bit wider. Beautiful form even on the hollow closeouts. The sandbar on this side of the jetty seems to be in pretty good shape with plenty of room on the face to get some good backside cracks. Pretty fun.
Swami's 10/26/06
6:30 am - 8:00 am
1 - 3' some + Southern hemi pretty much on a very big down trend. There was a decent pulse of west in the water yesterday afternoon but that seems to have disappeared over night, which is typical for this time of year. A few nice little corners while the tide wasn't too high but once it filled in a bit it was over.
OB Jetty 10/25/06
6:30 am - 9:00 am
2 - 4' some 5' + Southern hemi starting to fizzle and a little bit of west in the mix too. Not too bad with a bounce peak finally working. A bit soft but the larger ones lining up and throwing up some face. The bigger southern hemi sets swinging wide and bowling. Managed to pull down one of those that shacked up me nicely before pulling out under the curtain. Not too bad.
Bird Rock 10/24/06
6:30 am - 9:00 am
3 - 4' some 6' + Still solid. Going on day five of this series of southern hemis. Interesting how spring and fall have been better for these New Zealand swells this year. Pretty consistent and rippable. Peak actually splitting both ways nicely with the rights being longer. Pretty fun until the tide got a wee bit too high but it was still surfable. Good.
OB Jetty 10/23/06
6:30 am - 9:00 am
3 - 4' some 6' + Southern hemi still kicking and seems to have received a new pulse overnight. Some solid waves coming through on the push. Tide going to a six footer around 9:00. Direction once again had a lot of west in it. Not really bouncing of the jetty but more or less refracting and swinging wide. Some good waves to be had off the corner you just had to nail down the right ones. My first wave was a shot gun of a head high barrel that swung wide and spun all the way through to the stub. Pretty sick and was chasing that high for the rest of the morning.
Swami's 10/22/06
6:30 am - 9:00 am
3 - 4' some 6' + Southern hemi really started filling in overnight. Solid chest to head high waves pouring through. Direction had enough west in it to link pretty good on the high tide. Inside plenty rippable with some fast walls peeling through. Crowd not too bad and beautiful conditions making for a very good session.
Del Mar 8th St. 10/21/06
6:30 am - 9:30 am
2 - 4' some 6' + Swell still on the rise with new long intervals. You could see though that the sets were getting a bit bigger than the day before and slightly more consistent. Pea soup fog conditions. Couldn't see a damn thing from the cliff. Hit it anyhow and could see immediately that it was a bit sectiony from some junky north west wind swell in the water. Some good rights early for about a half an hour until the tide got on it. After that mostly some sweeping lefts that were reforming pretty good through the inside and the odd right that would hold up occasionally. Only problem was that me and my buddy Jack were trying to get away from the crowd. If we wanted a crowd would have surfed Swami's. Completely packed out with a ton of goons who were the dangerous can't get to your feet types. Kind of a bummer but still managed to get some decent ones, especially after the crowd thinned out around *:30 or so.
Swami's 10/20/06
6:30 am - 8:30 am & 10:30 am - 1:00 pm
2 - 3' some 4' + Southern hemi on the rise and in the water before all the predictions. Lots of west in the swell and very long period at about 20 seconds which Swami's loves. Some solid sets early on the tidal push. Real rippable through the inside with the bigger sets swinging real wide. Tide finally go to it around 8:30 and shut it down. Came back around 10:30. Tide just starting to pull out and beautiful Santa Ana conditions holding little to no wind. Some good sets early but as the tide was draining becoming more inconsistent and a bit weaker. Still some good waves on the sets if you could pull them down. Caught a few rippables towards the end of the session that were awfully lined up. Fun.
Chelcedony St. 10/19/06
7:00 am - 9:00 am
2 - 3' some + Wind swell on the decline but a was more southern hemi so the lefts more of a call today. Not nearly as good as the day before but still plenty fun.
Chelcedony St. 10/18/06
7:00 am - 10:00 am
2 - 4' some + More wind swell from a passing front and some southern hemi creating good peaks up and down the beach. One of those rare north of the pier days that defy expectations with super rippable and hollow waves - basically a rare event. Lefts and rights lining up and crackable and the odd tube on some rights off the corner of the Capri. Winds blowing offshore and the sun wa out. Can't ask for much more than that. Crowd not too bad until about 9. You can count on that with all the boozers unable to hit the dawno. Really good.
Chelcedony St. 10/16/06
7:00 am - 9:00 am
1 - 2' some + A little bit of west wind swell and a touch of southern hemi forming clean little peaks up and down the beach that had some face to work with on both the lefts and rights. Kind of fun for being so small.
OB Jetty 10/14/06
6:00 am - 8:30 am
1 - 3' some + West swell just barely a blip left after one day of it. Some ragged wind swell replacing it and that on the decline as well. Caught maybe two decent waves at the Jetty until it shut down on the rising tide. Went over to middle and surfed some terrible slop with about 50 guys. Poor.
South Mission 10/13/06
6:00 am - 8:00 am
1 - 3' some + Very, very inconsistent north west swell barely wrapping into San Diego. Some solid sets every 15 minutes or so but between sets nada. Jetty looked good on the sets but 12 guys already on it so the ratio of guys per wave wasn't so hot so went down the beach a bit were it was uncrowded. Looked fast but makeable but in reality pretty unmakable. Poor.
