Location Date/Time Conditions
Scripps 10/31/00
6:30 am - 8:00 am
3 - 4' Some real peaky and consistent surf this morning with the wind swell. Raining pretty good with a nice stiff offshore breeze creating a few lucky barrels but mostly just wedgy rights and lefts that would zip along for a bit and then close out. Fun session.
Blacks 10/29/00
6:30 am - 8:00 am
1 - 3' Some clean fun little peaks coming through but it was ruined by the millions of guys down for a NSSA contest. Couldn't figure out why there was no parking with the buoys being so small. Found out too late when I reached the bottom of the trail. Battled it out with at least 20 guys at south peak who were warming up between heats or something. Not a good go out although I did manage to miraculously snag a set wave.
Scripps 10/27/00
6:30 am - 8:00 am
2 - 3'+ Raining and blowing offshore creating some fun rights with the tide filling in real high. Was a section a little north of the stairs that was holding up creating mostly rights but a few lefts too.
Reed St. 10/26/00
6:30 am - 8:00 am
1 - 3' Pretty small with the sporadic set here and there. Blowing offshore but with the swell straight west most of the waves were closing out. Tide filled in then and pretty much shut it down.
Reed St. 10/23/00
6:30 am - 8:00 am
2 - 3' Clean with a little bit of rain. Small left and right peaks that would line up if you picked right.
Swami's 10/22/00
7:30 am - 9:30 am
2 - 3' Crowded and flaccid on the high tide going low. Caught a couple good ones at first but kiddy bowl wasn't working really so everyone and their mother was packed on the peak.
Blacks 10/19/00
6:30 am - 8:00 am
2 - 3' Small scale south and west ground swells making for small, inconsistent conditions. Looks like the sandbars have built up again. Some decent lefts coming off south peak, although a tad on the mushy side, but fun none the less. Extremely crowded for so early in the morning. I guess Black's has been the only game in town over the last week or so, so the word is out. Best surf I've had since the last time I was down here two weeks ago.
Reed St. 10/15/00
7:30 am - 9:30 am
2 - 3' More of the same today. Small wind swell with a little bit of background ground swell. A bit more surfable today than it has been. Some fun little rights and a few lefts. Still a bit mushy or closed out but if you were patient you could get a good one. Ultra clean conditions again with light off shores when the marine layer burnt off.
Reed St. 10/13/00
6:30 am - 8:00 am
1 - 2' Small but very clean with light off shores. Caught a few fun waves at the beginning but overall very small and a bit mushy with the incoming tide.
La Jolla Shores 10/11/00
6:30 am - 8:00 am
1 - 3' Clean conditions after the rain but too bad the surf wasn't cooperating. Small junky, mushy, and powerless wind swell that looked a little better on the lower tide but once the tide started filling in, became almost unridable. Managed to get a few ridable waves but overall a pretty crappy session.
Bird Rock 10/06/00
6:30 am - 8:00 am
2 - 4' Very inconsistent south west with a lot of west. Sets had size, but because of the west in the swell, needed a real high tide, which wasn't going to happen. Wind already up again because of the stubborn marine layer which has actually been giving us rain every morning. Some decent waves coming through, but kind of mushy. A few lined up all the way through but those were not the very common. Got more consistent as the tide started peaking giving it a bit more oomph through the inside.
Blacks 10/04/00
5:00 pm - 7:00 pm
2 - 4' Finally scored some good waves. How long has it been? Quite awhile. A little textured and the tide a bit to high at first. Got good quick with the tide dropping and it glassing off. Really lined up and fast lefts. Was just racing the sections for the first half hour. Tide dropped a bit more and the face started opening up a bit. Caught a nice head high set that bowled for 50 yards. Was pumping and squatting through the bowl the whole time trying to decide whether or not to grab my rail. Insane wave.
Abbs 10/02/00
6:30 am - 7:30 am
2 - 4' More south today and made the mistake of paddling out at Nubes first. Soft and unridable there so paddled down to Abbs which was picking up the swell better but was still kind of weak. Mushy but managed to catch a couple that lined up well through the inside. Some bomb sets every once in awhile but a heavy crowd battling for them.
P.B. Point 10/01/00
9:30 am - 11:00 am
2 - 4' Weak north west swell running and the first of the season. Everyone and their mother out at Hermo and the Point. Actually, silly crowded everywhere. Saw some good waves wrapping through the point so hit it up despite the large crowd. Lacking power, but I managed to sit on the inside corner with this girl who always surfs here and some longboarder, and caught some nice waist high lines through the inside pretty consistently. Oh, if it only had a bit more juice it would have been epic with the swell direction right on and the tide filling in.
