| Newbreak | 09/27/99 5:30 pm - 7:30 pm |
2 - 3'Combo of a real strong south swell running around 180 degrees that was just barely spilling into southern San Diego mixed with an extremely north medium sized swell. The Cliffs were the call with everywhere around town looking a little closed out on the low tide. Pulled up into the lot and Abbs is looking pretty solid. Newbs is breaking also so we opt for Newbreak. On the way down I was still sceptical because Abbs was looking much more consistent in a sea of inconsistency. Paddle out and it is inconsistent. Inbetweens however starts to fire with the tide turning around. Unfortunately the lure of Newbs is to strong and me and Morgan stick it out at pretty soft (for there) Newbs while watching a pretty good sized pack get some sickies at Inbetweens. Not to complain but I got some good waves but it could have been better. |
| Missouri St. | 09/26/99 7:30 am - 9:30 am |
2 - 3' Only one out in front of the Capri for a real long time for some reason. Swell real junky and soft but there was a pitching little peak coming through every once in awhile that was worth hanging out for. Water was extremely but ass cold with some major upwelling going on. Two guys paddle out towards me towards the end of the session but they couldn't figure out what was going on in the inconsistent conditions. |
| Missouri St. | 09/22/99 5:30 pm - 7:00 pm |
2 - 3' Nice little wind swell combo throwing up some real racey little rights out front. Inside was the call with the super high tide. Pretty fun. |
| Missouri St. | 09/19/99 7:30 am - 9:00 am |
1 - 3' South swell pretty much gone with just sets coming through every blue moon. Totally uncrowded this morning and it looked like a little left was busting off the north end of the Capri so I went out. Water but ass cold at about 59 degrees. Caught a few super sucky lefts that would line up nicely and then get real soft. Caught a real nice right that was a fluke. Pretty fun though because it was just me and then a sponge out there for most of the time. |
| Uppers | 09/18/99 9:30 am - 11:30 am |
2 - 4' South swell already fading and inconsistent. Super glassy with it raining up in Oceanside on the way up. Real silly crowd on the main peak with not enough to go around as usual. Tried surfing the main peak but was quickly discouraged. Slid on to the outside corner were there was about 5 groms hanging out and for some strange reason no one else surfing it. Real fun 2 to 3 footers peeling across the far corner into the inside. My buddy Dave however, was determined to surf the peak were some clown dropped in on him and then tried to get behind him while Dave was round housing and nailed his board. He was not to happy. I was pretty stoked however getting oodles of fun rippable waves. |
| OB Jetty | 09/17/99 6:30 am - 8:00 am |
2 - 3' + New south swell mixed in with some wind swell making for some real wedgy conditions at the Jetty. A little inconsistent but the ones coming through were bumping off the Jetty and wedging nicely along the outside sandbar. The corner today was not happening at all with it dumping hard. Not real hollow but real lined up. Was weird though, after an hour the tide started dropping, which wasn't much of a tidal change, the waves started getting real mushy. Real fun after surfing closed out beach break for most of the week. |
| Chalcedony St. | 09/14/99 5:00 pm - 6:00 pm |
1 - 3' + Pure wind swell junk for the umpteenth day. It tried to clean up in the evening (good during high tide?) but was still real weird. Soft and warbly or real closed. Caught a few decent ones but most of the waves were drop in and smack the closeout section if you could. Some waves were throwing evidenced by one guy who Mr. Somehowed it and got a sick full on pig dog backside tube ride. I'm always trying to get a good one in and got a real screaming double up that had this weird double section at the end which I managed to smack/float across into 6 inches of water. |
| Bird Rock | 09/11/99 9:30 am - 11:30 am |
2 - 3' + Wind swell influence has finally backed off a bit. A small southern hemi still running but very inconsistent. What started out to be a good session with 5 other guys quickly deteriorated into a kook fest with about 30 guys in the lineup. Waves were inconsistent and slightly mushy but with the crowd these conditions were unbearable. Best wave I caught was a left across the inside boils. |
| Missouri St. | 09/09/99 6:00 pm - 7:30 pm |
2 - 3' Combo of extremely junky wind swell and a small southern hemi making for some junky crossed up conditions out front. Really cleaned up with the tidal push but many of the waves were soft or closed out. Did get a real nice freak lined up left that made it worthwhile. |
| Missouri St. | 09/07/99 6:00 pm - 7:30 pm |
2 - 3' Hurry up wind swell making for better than no surf conditions. Pretty walled out even with the extreme high tide. Mediocre at best. |
| Bird Rock | 09/05/99 2:00 pm - 3:00 pm |
2 - 4' New Zealand swell fading quick. Bird looked decent from the cliff but I get out there and most of the waves are pretty mushy. Inconsistency coupled with the thick crowd was making me question why I was out there. Caught a few good ones and every once in awhile a big bomb set was coming through, which would wrap into Ziggy's. Was fortunate enough to get one of those and go in. |
| Newbreak | 09/04/99 8:00 am - 10:00 am |
3 - 4' + New Zealand swell holding strong throughout the morning. Looked a little weak at first because of the tide but decided to hit it up anyhow. Good call. All it took was a little tide shift and it started firing. Not real hollow but just nice walls coming through with some solid head high sets. A little warbly because of the strong winds from the day before but sheet glassy. Caught a bunch of good waves. Caught one from the middle section that did a sick double up tube through the inside. Best wave I've had all summer. |
| PB Point | 09/03/99 5:00 pm - 7:00 pm |
3 - 4' New Zealand swell. First real swell of the summer season and the first New Zealand swell in about three years. Saw it coming up the night before but was still pretty small. Really started coming on during the day but the wind was making for less than ideal conditions. Looked around a bit and after debating about Bird Rock with a heavy crowd but looking good, opted for PB Point with a light crowd and increasing swell. Some real nice fat sets wrapping around the point. The direction makes it break a little more north and outside but if you get a good one it would wrap through all the way to the stairs. Pretty stoked mellow crowd making it that much more enjoyable. |
