Location Date/Time Conditions
Zippers, Baja Sur 09/29/00
4:30 pm - 7:00 pm
2 - 4' Finally some waves after sitting on the Cape for almost a week now. Inconsistent but definitely pulsing. Some fun race tracks on the low tide. Silly crowded. Couple of local kids dropping in on everything and everyone. Kids, learn to bottom turn OK? figured out like most points you can catch the set wide so sat on it and caught a few sets and also some inside peelers. Fun but still a let down - I would love to see this place at size. On a final sour note, this guy was getting tired of being dropped in on by this kid so he dropped in on him. The kid got out of the water and started throwing rocks at him. Nice welcoming spirit around their.
Zippers, Baja Sur 09/28/00
8:00 am - 10:00 am
1 - 3'+ Small pulsing south swell on the high tide push. We're staying at a friends condo right above the Zip and had been watching it for days now pick up on the high tide push and finally decided there was enough swell this morning to hit it. A few other guys out. Not a good thing when it is inconsistent, as it has a real tight take off zone when small. Fast lines pushing through the inside with a few little bowls. Fun for awhile until the very high tide killed it.
Playa Cerritos, Baja Sur 09/27/00
1:00 pm - 2:00 pm
1 - 3'+ Just trace south swell and some wind swell today. The coast was looking pretty flat on the drive out and really windy. Same conditions as the day before but a bit more closed out. One plus - I was the only one out.
Playa Cerritos, Baja Sur 09/25/00
12:00 pm - 4:00 pm
2 - 3'+ Arrived in Cabo the day before and of course it is flat on the Cape. Drive to the Pacific side were it is windy and junky but luckily Cerritos picks up any swell and cleans it up in a nice little cove set up with prevailing side shore - offshore conditions in the afternoon. Fun snappy, bowly lefts that would shut down quick after peeling for awhile. Fun but nothing great. At least the water is warm.
Newbreak 09/19/00
6:30 am - 8:00 am
1 - 3' Must of hit the end of the window around 6:30. A few waist high peelers pushing through Nubes. No one out when I looked at it but of course by the time I got down there there were three guys on it. Not much to go around. A few sneakers coming out of the west but mostly leftover south west pulse every 5 minutes or so. Pretty mediocre.
Chalcedony St. 09/16/00
10:00 am - 11:30 am
1 - 2' maybe + Supposed new south swell no where in sight. A few pulses out of the south every 10 minutes or so but very weak. Mostly just weak wind swell slop. Glassy conditions after the pea soup fog burned off. Pretty weak session overall with dribbly right and lefts. Almost made the mistake of paddling out at Bird Rock. Couldn't see the line up at all because of the fog and assumed that south swell had filled in. Glad I didn't.
Diamond St. 09/14/00
7:00 am - 8:30 am
2 - 3'+ Hurricane Lane swell finally showing up in Diego area. Checked the reefs but they were funky due to the short wind swell type interval of the swell. Beach breaks were on however. Consistent race track lefts. Extremely fast with the lower tide but once the tide started moving in the peaks started holding up but you had to be a choosy mother. Sets were wedging nicely between Diamond and Missouri that would reel for a block or so. Finally some half way decent waves!
Blacks 09/12/00
7:00 am - 8:00 am
1 - 2' Very small. Hurricane Lane's energy just passing us by because of the southeast angle. A few lefts and a few small hollow rights but overall very disappointing. Evening update. Swell from Lane is peaking and it looks like a little more energy is pushing into San Diego but not much. Good time to take a trip down into Baja or surf Newport.
Blacks 09/4/00
5:00 pm - 7:00 pm
2 - 3'+ A really deep and inconsistent south running. Wind swell on top making for less than ideal conditions after the wind had been on it all afternoon. Was glassing off but wasn't really helping conditions out what so ever. Anyhow tried the best I could to get some decent waves. Finally settled down at north peak were some right were holding up. Swell over hyped again.
Blacks 09/3/00
8:00 am - 10:00 am
1 - 3'+ A bit bigger today with some more wind swell and a bit more south swell. Really crowded however and not enough of the god ones to go around. Managed to get a few decent lefts that weren't closing out and managed to sneak a little cover up on a hollow little right. Sandbars are pretty worked over.
Blacks 09/2/00
8:00 am - 10:00 am
1 - 2'+ Rained again last night creating offshore conditions in the morning. Surf real small and clean with some little tubes to be had. A difficult surf because of the size but a few fun lefts to be had. Beautiful day.
